I've been thinking of making some websites in my spare time now that I've finished Uni.

Please click here to view my site and tell me what you think.

The site is not WordPress based - but you could be forgiven for thinking it is - I think I took too much 'inspiration' from the default WP theme, what do you think?

All feedback gratefully received.

:excl1: Ignore prices as they were plucked from thin air.

Thanks

It's very clean and organised but as you said, a little too much like WP default. But I like it. I think you should use more CSS to your advantage (such as styling the text links etc) and you need more examples in your portfolio (also make the image thumbnails clickable so we can see it live or full size preview)

Thanks, I'll bear it in mind. I just need to add some originality to it basically (and redo the Portfolio page) but I am glad it comes across as well organised.

Looks good

1 or 2 things i'd do:

The links on the side (Services) i think they look alittle too much like Google ad links... mabey you could change the color.

Also mabey you should change the color of the links to a colour like grey or somthing...

Other than that, it looks good! Mabey on the portfolio pages, you should take the top of firefox off the images, and just show the site, i think it just makes it look a little neater.

Thanks for the feedback.

I've tried to act on what you guys have said.

I am still not too happy with it, but what do you guys think? LINK

I think you need to spend some more time on your header - the shark is very heavy just sitting there in the middle, and is making the page feel quite unbalanced. I'm also not sure about having your portfolio thumbnails in the header. It's not where users/ clients are going to be expecting to find them. The text 'spencersplace.co.uk' is looking a bit like an after thought TBH.

I would start again with your header, move the shark to the left or right edge, redo the text for spencersplace.co.uk with a more interesting font at a larger size, and move the portfolio thumbnails to somewhere else on the page.

The rest of your site is coming together nicely, I just feel like the header is letting it down.

Good luck.

For what it's worth two things hit me: one is that the font used for "Affordable... web design" is horrible (imho), and the second is that it should be text not image in any case, for SEO purposes. If i were you I'd look at use of fonts throughout: to my way of thinking there's too many different ones with no logic to their use. Makes the design look ill-co-ordinated and scatty (again, imho).

Also agree with the other post about the rhs links looking like google ads.

Apart from that, it's looking good - nice clean design

That's a very nice website. You should do some work with those links on the side, they really look like google links.

You did a nice job by the way!
