I say keep going with it. If you're passionate about the topic, just work on it until your experience increases.

People always ask me "can you teach me to be good at photoshop?", and the answer is never straight forward. Getting good at something isn't a linear road like leveling up in an RPG, its just a collection of small tricks you've learnt over time that accumulate to expertise. Just like playing guitar. Or website development and design.

Why not look at websites you find inspiring and then try to rebuild them in your own design. Thats a good way to learn new tricks that you wouldn't otherwise get to discover.

    Welcome to the forums!

This could be caused by any number of things:

    1. Hotlinked images
    - check your server stats to see if any images are being linked to from external sites, typically embedding the image somewhere but pulling it from your site

    2. The "Digg effect"
    - has your site been linked to on a social sharing sites such as Reddit, Facebook? again check your stats to see if any particular sites give you a *lot* of referrals

    3. DDoS (Denial of service attack)
    - it could be someone is attacking your site for reasons unknown. When DDoS happens good web hosts normally see it happening and do something about it. Not all hosts do this though.

    3. All on IE6
    - this suggests the referrals are coming from the Far east, typically China etc.

Your first course of action should really eb to contact your web host and explain the situation. A good host will work with you and attempt to resolve any attacks, if they're not interested in helping you it's probably time to find another host

@teodora You got a clean and elegant Pro Portfolio there and the "t" logo rocks, i was like .
I should say that really inspired me! <like that jQuery animation and the overall design> .

Btw, i'm wondering how long did it take you 'from scratch to converting your design to WP' ?... just curious!

Hi there, i used to browse this great forum but i finally decided to join to learn more. I'm familiar with HTML & CSS and would like to learn more about programming languages like php e.t.c! My goal is to one day design my own portfolio and convert it to use with popular content management systems like WP and become a professional web-designer.

Hope 'll learn more during my stay here.

    Thank you.

Thank you guys for your warm welcome.

@throzen Good advice. No doubt JS is nowadays the most wanted but i'll keep discovering it. For now i should break the wall step by step and piece by piece, so i personally think i should learn PHP then later on pimp my php pages with some JS.

Yes ofcourse i can't wait to one day post my portfolio here so you guys can judge it and make it more cooler. I will surely keep you in the loop.php lol .

    Hi there, welcome aboard.

My advice would be to start learning JavaScript first. JS is paramount in development and, as a professional, employers seek candidates with JS knowledge, not always PHP.

I look forward to seeing your future portfolio site, keep us in the loop.

    From experience:

Joomla : Definately has security issues, and I have been attacked with joomla which has put me right off it, not sure if they have fixed the holes!
WP : don't like it too much as i think it attracts a lot of bad attention with roaming bots, constantly trying to overload a server, unless you have control over your own hosted server, i don't think i wouldn't use it. (just my opinion no need to have a go at me )

Drupal : don't know! not really used it.

But i think a big factor is also the environment you are using the CMS in. If the hosted environement of the files or database is not secured properly you will be attacked, i guarantee it, it is only a matter of time.

Best thing you can do is make sure your folders have proper file permissions and you set up correct users with restricted permissions for MYSQL and not give out super admin usernames and passwords (I mean in the config files that you have use).

To those people who 're claiming that a CMS is securer than other, please don't come to a conclusion when giving advice because that way you confuse the people that 're new to CMS.
Btw, i 100% agree with @MMMedia and @Nillervision. Better give a reason why because that makes everything clear

It would be nice if you good people would add a second line to your posts with a little explanation or a link to some documentation just to add a little weight to your statements.

    Are you clients security experts?

You can harden WP, you can also riddle it with holes. The same is true of Joomla and Drupal!
