  1. Hi everyone, just had a question wasnt sure if this is the right section to post this under so apologies if it isnt I tried to find the most suitable one.. I have a couple of wordpress site and heard that uploading files through Dreamweavers built in SFTP function is best when editing files as it time/date stamps the files in a way that makes it work better with search engines. I used Filezilla previously to do all file uploads which I found better. I just wondered if this is correct? Thanks
  2. Yea I thought it was when I first dabbled with Zurb foundation rallport but the more I use it the more I like it and realise its features. I am kind of stuck dabbling though as I have an additional 'styles.css' file listed after 'foundation.min.css' but I am unable to get the styles (hover colours to be more specific) I want applied it seems that the styles from foundation.min.css are taking precedence. I always thought it was the stylesheet listed last that would take precedence
  3. Cibgraphics - Can you be a bit more specific please? I could just use the framework without nav and do my own from scratch just seems like a really good way to get a site up and running and responsive at the same time.. Do you have any sort of affiliation with Vanilla5? Thanks
  4. Hi guys, been researching a lot on grid layouts. I have dabbled with Foundation and the 1140 grid as well as previously the 960GS. Just wondered if many of you have any opinions on Gumby grid? It seems to have a lot built in for navigation, forms and validation etc. where Foundation framework was lacking. Also would like to know what everyones opinion would be on using one of these frameworks for a client in production? Thanks
  5. I havent used the push and pull but reading up on them its could come in really handy. Is it just down to preference for the choice between 1120 grid or the gumby framework?
  6. Can you recommend a good one Renaissance? Thanks
  7. Hi guys, ive been looking at grid systems and just wondering what opinions are on them and how useful they are? The original http://960.gs Or variant version of 960 grid http://www.spry-soft.com/grids/ Thanks
  8. Thanks guys, appreciate the input. Currently revamping my portfolio site and will do the same with my clients site. I used a template before for a site I created at University and it took me a lot longer because I had to go through their CSS and markup and change it so it was suitable for my project. That kind of put me off using templates but I didnt know as much about web development back then so will give this a try and maybe you guys could review my sites when ive finished for some feedback?
  9. Ah okay. Yeah will give that a go Sash. Thanks for your help. Can you recommend any good free themes please?
  10. Sash you suggesting I should ditch my theme and go with a template? Tbh I just got the site functional as thats what they wanted and they were happy with colour scheme etc. I do admit it needs a bit of work to get a looking better but I dont really want to start using other peoples themes. I like to know how the code works in case somethings goes wrong..lol. Minimalist indeed.. but they were more keen on having a responsive design for iPad and iPhone so I added in some media queries for these, which was priority to them and took a lot of testing to get it working right as I had never done that before.. Admittedly I could have just used a responsive theme from ThemeForest but I am trying to build on my portfolio so want to learn as much as possible in the process of creating sites..
  11. Sash can you offer some suggestions? Site was put up in a hurry hence why its so basic, client didnt want anything fancy. Renaissance - It only had a set amount of pages thats why I never implemented a dynamic menu bar. Thanks for the code snippet though will try and implement it to replace the existing nav.
  12. Hi guys, I recently put together a site for a client in Wordpress. I started off building on the Starkers theme and added in my navigation to the HTML header file. Each page was completed using the dashboard to set up pages and add the content through its HTML editor. This involved a lot of copying and pasting from my original site. My question is, is there a better way to do this using Wordpress? My own thoughts were to take the pages out and transfer them to page templates and use a different page template for each individual page. Perhaps someone can tell me if this is the most efficient way Thanks
  13. Hi everyone I'm Nathan currently doing freelance web development and look forward to learning and sharing with the community
