This is an interesting question and the same reason I stopped by today. I am doing a volunteer web design project for a new pizza restaurant in my local area, and a feature I wanted to add was allowing customers to place their order online rather than only being limited to calling in to place their order. Exactly like the large franchise pizza chains! I would be using this as a learning experience for myself as well. Has anyone ever done something like this before, that could point me in the correct direction? Sounds like this is what the OP was talking about as well, if not, I apologize for jumping into this thread!

I used Moo once and it was pretty good. One that I didn't notice being mentioned is Printrunner.com . I use them a lot now, they have great quality with far better prices than Moo. The few posts that I have during the short period of time have been a big help. I've received calls from SEO marketers, mainly these pasts 6 months, asking for $200 a month to rank us #1 on Google immediately. I know better than to believe those people.

I'm having a little SEO trouble and I am hoping there will be someone willing to give me some advice/help. I'm a college student, I develop web sites but when it comes to SEO, I haven't got a clue! Starting my explanation. My mother has an online business (I won't say what it is in public). For the past 5 years, she's run her business at Etsy.com and the products she sells, the competition on Etsy is moderate but she sells between 10-15 products a day and the traffic she gets isn't that heavy. About three years ago, she asked me to build her a web site of her own. I went ahead and built her a nice looking web site, we setup her Authorize.net account and got the ball rolling. The problem is, I do not know where to even begin with SEO. I've done so much research but there is a lot of different information out there and still leaves me confused with questions. When I search for her keywords, she is nowhere to be found on Google. I have managed to make her show up in the Google Shopping, although it's pretty deep into the pages to where I doubt anyone looks. I'm talking 10+ pages deep. I also have setup a Google AdWords account, and we spend around $70 a day and her web site always shows up in the #1 - #2 spot in the Google Ads for the specific keywords we want it to show up as. We get around 120-180 unique hits a day and she makes about 2 sales at most a day from her web site. Which means she loses money on a daily basis with GoogleAdWords, but I am trying to keep her to stick with it. We can't figure out why we get more hits on her web site than we do at her Etsy shop, but she sells far less. The products are the same at both places, except they are a tad bit cheaper at her own web site. I am looking for someone who wouldn't mind trying to tell me what I am doing wrong as far as the SEO goes. I'll be willing to share what the web site is in private, as long as I know we won't get spammed with stuff. We are considering getting a professional SEO expert, but at the same time I would like to know what it is that I am doing wrong.

About two months ago I started a new web design company and I also offer print design. I've had several clients where I have had to design flyers, brochures, menus, business cards etc.. for but being a new company, I never invested in the hardware to be able to print this media myself. I would design the media and I would use third-party to print for me. This got very costly and my profits were very minimal, but at the same time I didn't have much of a choice unless I wanted to invest more than I could. I have just recently acquired a project where I will be printing 120,000 flyers for a local company and I feel it's time for my company to invest in the hardware needed to produce my own prints rather than using third parties. I am in the stages right now where I am researching what my best options, and most cost efficient. What information I am hoping to learn from posting here is the following: 1) What would be some good printers to look into? I have a list of about 5 right now that I would like to compare to those that get recommended. 2) Never having dealt with actual printing myself, how do toners work for laser printers? I've done a lot of reading and I see that they have different toners such as black, magenta, yellow and some more. Are all of them required to print in color? 3) Large projects such as the one I am currently designing for would require quite a bit of ink and paper. Where would be a good suggested place to purchase toners/inks/paper in wholesale? I've done the math, and if I was to purchase toners and paper at my local office supply stores, I would still be better off hiring a third-party to print for me otherwise I'd be losing money. So I assume there has to be a place to buy these in wholesale. If anyone with experience with this could suggest anything for me, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for the advice, I will definitely give some of those a try! What I did with my flyers was just pin them up on advertisement boards. I know it's not the best idea, but it was just something while we figure out what else we could try. As for the calling, I've thought about that before, but it didn't sound like something a professional would do. I personally cannot stand telemarketers and I just did not want to be one of those people, but I guess I'll have to do what I have to do to get my business going, eh?

Hi! I don't know if this post belongs in this section, but after browsing around, this seemed like the best spot for it. For starters, I am new to this forum (about 2 weeks here), I read it almost everyday and this is my second post. I am hoping to get some advice from other established web design companies/freelancers. I have been in school for web design for many years and I've been designing for the past 8 years, for myself, family, friends and friends of friends. My intentions have always been to build up my own web design company and I have registered my company about 1 month ago. Over the course of the month, I've got two clients (small projects) through friends of friends. After these two projects, I've been at a stand-still as far as getting new clients. What would anyone who's been through this before suggest I try to get more clients? What I have done so far: -Flyers -Business cards to my contacts and acquaintances -Yellow pages -Local classifieds I would love to send out personalized letters to local businesses who don't have (but could use) a website and businesses that could use a refresher on their current design. However, my partner and I are not that good at writing said letters. I have tried to research online for sample letters, but unfortunately I have't had much luck. Does anyone know where I could find a good example of what a letter like this should look/sound like? I do not want to get into bidding wars on freelance websites, as I have taken the time to look some over and it seems that there are too many firms in India that are bidding pennies.

Hi, my name is Angelo and I am new to these forums. I've been looking for a forum like this to turn to as a "home forum" for web designers, so hopefully I've found the right one. I have about 10 years of web design experience, I am still a college student at 27 years old, trying to learn more and more things in web design, graphic design and now business and marketing as well. I just recently started my own web design company less than two weeks ago, currently with only two other team members. I am looking to build a clientele base for my new found company, so I am hoping that I will be able to get some tips and suggestions from experience folks on here.
