If I am getting paid from another country...
Do you have an accountant? Or accountant friend? If not, go to a specialized forum - a uk one - and ask there, that's your best bet for free advice.

Thanks! But there is still that nagging feeling it could be better... I'll keep trying.

How can somone sign or accept a contract online?
I didn't mention the e-signature because of one simple reason: if the client doesn't have one, a web designer asking him to go to all the trouble of creating one just for him (and it will be viewed as trouble)... They will say, well, there's a lot of competition out there for web designers If the client already has one, well, he'll just use it anyway.

How do I let the owner manage the content?
Thanks for that! I'll give it a shot by myself, and then I'll definitely pm you if it's something odd going on

Thanks for the thoughts, they do make sense. Keep 'em coming! In the meantime, I'll do some thinking of my own.

How do I let the owner manage the content?
I have checked their website, and it says it's for building websites. What you mean is, if I have a website of my own, html & css, I could incorporate wordpress to give the client access to the basic changes? I know I sound stupid, but I just don't get the concept.

How can somone sign or accept a contract online?
Hey there, You do two things: 1. Exchange signed contract copies online. So, you agree on the contract draft, then you sign EVERY PAGE by hand, you scan them and then you e-mail them to the client. Then you expect that version to be showing their signatures, too, also scanned. Attention: if the client is a company, make sure you get the company stamp on every page. Attention 2: make sure the person signing the stuff has the legal right to do so. You don't want to end up with a contract signed by the water guy (you just ask if they are sure of it or, if the contract is major, ask them to submit a scanned copy of the notarized power of attorney, or after the company registration papers, if that person is the administrator. If they ask why, just tell them it's company policy because of your too strict accountant). Attention 3: make sure you send and receive these scanned, signed copies from an official e-mail address, so that you make sure they come from that company. 2. Get the original, paperback contracts. So what the client is in another country? You have post, or fast courier services like DHL all over the world. You need the contracts for two reasons: 1. Legal reasons: some countries accept the scanned copies as binding. Some must have the original. In order to avoid future discussions with your accountant, get the original. It's always safer. 2. This is one great way to verify each other's location. Cissy PS: make sure you include, in your draft template, the applicable legislation and court of law. Preferably, they should be the ones from your own country (law) and town (court of law).

Morning boys and girls, Your brutally honest feedback is what I need, so let yourself go! They are just drafts, but I love my idea of using two colours for one word. Not sure about the positioning of the second line, though. C.

How do I let the owner manage the content?
Morning guys, It may sound dumb, but help me out. I'm building the websites in Dreamweaver, and ok, they're ready, and afterwards I go back to DW to make whatever changes I want. BUT what do I need to learn, and how do I do it, in order to let the client manage the content by himself? I'm talking about simple uploading options, like a new pic, a new paragraph and so on. Many thanks. Cissy

are there any certifications/qualifications etc worth having?
I'm going to apply for the Adobe certificates sometimes in the near future. As for the utility of having an extra piece of paper: people won't necessarily ask for it, but they will be impressed if you flash it. Maybe not a colleague, but a potential employer, yes. That's my reasoning, anyway.

New Gal in Da House
Hi guys, I'm Cissy, this is my first post, and I love learning all about web design - people, I don't know how anybody survived w/o Dreamweaver & Illustrator! I've build two websites so far, and this has proved so educational. But it's also like trying to catch a ray of sun, as all issues solved bring more ones to life, isn't it? So, I'll be asking questions in this community, and hopefully you guys will answer, and I'll also try to answer back to yours. Have a nice night, or good morning, if you read this while drinking your first coffee of the day Cissy
