  1. Yes that would be fantasic - as you can proberly tell its about 2 different CSS menu designs kinda forced together! Client had to see design yesterday so didn't have time to slim it down. Or make it rignt in IE *sigh* Any suggestions would be great :-)
  2. Hello, Does anyone know how to fix a drop down menu that appears too far to the left when parent link is hovered? This is in IE9 - I havn't yet tested it in ie8 etc. Works great in FF, Crome etc. Below is the code for entire tab menu and drop down. Sorry its a bit long...! /* -----------------Tabs Navigation --- */ ul.tabs { display: block; margin: 0; padding: 0; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-color: #CFCFCF; } ul.tabs li { display: block; width: auto; height: 30px; padding: 0; float: right; margin-bottom: 0; } ul.tabs li a { display: block; text-decoration: none; width: auto; height: 29px; padding: 0px 20px; line-height: 30px; margin: 0; font-size: 15px; background-color: #EEE7D5; border-top-width: 1px; border-right-width: 1px; border-bottom-width: 0; border-left-width: 0; border-top-style: solid; border-right-style: solid; border-bottom-style: solid; border-left-style: solid; border-top-color: #BCBCBC; border-right-color: #BCBCBC; border-bottom-color: #BCBCBC; border-left-color: #BCBCBC; color: #666; } ul.tabs li a.active { background: #fff; height: 30px; position: relative; top: -4px; padding-top: 4px; border-left-width: 1px; margin: 0 0 0 -1px; color: #111; -moz-border-radius-topleft: 4px; -webkit-border-top-left-radius: 4px; border-top-left-radius: 4px; -moz-border-radius-topright: 4px; -webkit-border-top-right-radius: 4px; border-top-right-radius: 4px; } ul.tabs li:first-child a.active { margin-left: 0; } ul.tabs li:first-child a { border-width: 1px 1px 0 1px; -moz-border-radius-topright: 4px; -webkit-border-top-right-radius: 4px; border-top-right-radius: 4px; } ul.tabs li:last-child a { -moz-border-radius-topleft: 4px; -webkit-border-top-left-radius: 4px; border-top-left-radius: 4px; } ul.tabs-content { margin: 0; display: block; } ul.tabs-content > li { display:none; } ul.tabs-content > li.active { display: block; } ul.tabs:before, ul.tabs:after { content: '\0020'; display: block; overflow: hidden; visibility: hidden; width: 0; height: 0; } ul.tabs:after { clear: both; } ul.tabs { zoom: 1; } /*------------------- DROPDOWN ---*/ .tabs ul{ background: #FFF list-style:none; position:absolute; display: none; border-top-width: 1px; border-right-width: 1px; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-left-width: 1px; border-top-style: solid; border-right-style: solid; border-bottom-style: none; border-left-style: solid; border-top-color: #CCC; border-right-color: #CCC; border-bottom-color: #CCC; border-left-color: #CCC; width: 250px; top: 200px; } .tabs ul li{ padding-top:1px; float:none; } .tabs ul a{ white-space:nowrap; } .tabs li:hover ul{ /* ---------- Display the dropdown on hover--- */ background-color: #FFF; display: block; } .tabs li:hover a{ text-decoration:none; } .tabs li:hover ul a{ text-decoration:none; color:#666; font-size:14px; background-color:#ffffff; font-weight: normal; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; border-top-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 1px; border-left-width: 0px; border-top-style: solid; border-right-style: solid; border-bottom-style: solid; border-left-style: solid; border-top-color: #FFF; border-right-color: #FFF; border-bottom-color: #CCC; border-left-color: #FFF; } .tabs li:hover ul li a:hover{ /* Drop down menu hover */ color:#FFF; background-color:#9EADFE; font-weight: normal; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; width: auto; } .tabs ul li:first-child a { -moz-border-radius-topright: 0px; -webkit-border-top-right-radius: 0px; border-top-right-radius: 0px; } .tabs ul li:last-child a { -moz-border-radius-topleft: 0px; -webkit-border-top-left-radius: 0px; border-top-left-radius: 0px; }
  3. I was just trying to say I'm capable of designing... (not mentioning web design) Photoshop is a great tool for web design - I'm sure most here can agree. But it doesn't mean an amazing site can't be designed using other software, or dare I say pen and paper etc I think design encompases a lot of things, communication is obviously an important element Web design, of course, has a lot more to consider(useability for example)but I think the best way to learn is with practice and a bit of experimenting :-)
  4. Ive actually designed some neat graphics in the cheap program I already have... no, I'm not putting them on here... yet But I will be purchasing Photoshop in the near future (time to get out my shiney new credit card) Though I will certainly check out some of the alternatives mentioned on here I reckon I know this design you speak of - I've painted, collaged, sketched, doodled, screen printed, fabric penned, fabric dyed, embroidered, customised my way through life - so thanx I'm good ;-)
  5. On the first site: Great - maybe make the white text a little bigger - I'm struggling to read it. Love the way you've structured the blog site - different to the usual way of laying out blog posts.
  6. Thanks for all the food for thought Great points made xx
  7. I must be weird then - I am currently using Dreamweaver to code and create sites (no, i don't use the design view!) I view in a couple of browsers. I got stuck using Corel Paint Shop Pro to do graphics and photos (because the html 'web start' course i was on 2 years ago recommended downloading that! Does everyone just use Photoshop?
  8. Hi I'm in the process of setting up my own web design business - still learning but hopefully on the right track... SO... I got email from someone from an agency about designing a layout for a page. At first I thought they wanted a one page site design. But they wanted a design in psd format for the developer to work with. I don't have Photoshop so have not worked this way.(Basically I have taught myself html and now CSS - plus some bits and bobs as you do.) QUESTION... How best is it to work? Should I purchase Photoshop and learn to create designs thats way aswell? How often are you asked by clients to produce that way? OR: is it best to continue to stay on the same learning path I'm on? (html, CSS then Javascript and then a bit of php?
  9. Thanks I did get it sorted - yes it still displays the full url but at least they now give out a nice neat looking web address!
  10. Hi I have a clients website on a subdomain from mine. Its a completely different site (nothing to do with mine) Currently the website is on site like: www .clientssite.mysite.co.uk However, client has now purchased clientssite.net and wants this as their website address. Can I continue to host the site itself on the subdomain but display it when someone types in the url clientssite.net ? I'm basically trying to avoid them (or me) paying for a separate hosting provider for it! Can anyboday help?
  11. Hiya, Thanks very much I thought it would be something simple :-)
  12. Hi I thought (hoped) that by doing this.... <img src="../medsphoto.jpg" alt="The Meds Collective" width="373" height="260" border="0" usemap="#Map" /> <map name="Map" id="Map"> <area shape="rect" coords="18,21,101,234" alt="Hi-Breed" /> <area shape="rect" coords="120,22,228,218" alt="Paul-Lee" /> <area shape="rect" coords="244,25,340,231" alt="Mark" /> </map> ...That the alt tag would display the name when you hover over each area Guess not :-) Does anyone know how? An online example is the offical JLS website - they even have their fave colours as a bg for their name tag! woo So visit to see the effect I'm ultimatly after. Thanks in advance

    Hi, I'm sure this is a very easy question to answer... I have a website that I have put in a widget, from widgetbox, uses "text/javascript" and I was wondering what do I need to do to make the page load faster and on IE to stop the annoying 'Install Activx' bar from requesting user to allow. I havn't put a javascript in a webpage before - isn't there something I need to put into the <head> of the page? like: <script type="text/javascript" src="?????.... How do I know what to put for source? Or don't I need this atall and its something different i need to do? (widget and everything works and displays fine - but too slow and IE a pain) Any help would be great Thankyou
