Haha to be honest, I've never even heard of that company. The design comes from the name, spectrum, so a spectrum of colours would be appropriate graphic to accompany this you would imagine. I can see where you're coming from but this is general coincidence and not some cheap imitation. But, however, I will change my designs due to this.

I have made two quick mock ups for logo designs for my freelance company but I'm having trouble deciding on which one is better and which would appeal more to a wider audience. So, I thought I would ask your opinion on the matter, and ask for any criticism and improvements that could be made.

Do the majority of people still actually read RSS feeds? I am hearing mixed answers on this.

Each person is going to have different answers to this. Personal preference really. I myself use Panic's Coda because I like the features and its GUI as opposed to Dreamweaver. I don't think there's never going to be a universal industry standard program that every designer/developer users. As to your second question, I guess wage depends on the situation. If you're a professional freelance web designer your wage depends on the project/the amount of work you get. However, if you work for a company then your wage will vary depending on your job/position. Hope this is helpful for you.
