  1. Right. I am a junior PHP web developer. Not an expert.. yet!. The thing is I have a friend who is trying to start a business. He banks with HSBC. So from the discussions above, the first thing I will do is tell him to get a merchants account and keep a note of any details they mention. I dont know how payment works but im sure its not that difficult if you remove the legalities of it( which ofcourse you cant! ) .I would like to learn it in PHP if thats possible. Is there any test cards or test transaction I can try somewhere before i dive into it. Ill contact HSBC and get more details from them as well. Has anyone else done this before? Been a novice like me in processing payments. Any advice or experience will help one and all. Also thanks for the SagePay reference. ill surely look into it in more detail and post my findings here for anyone else to have to a look at it. thanks a lot RALLPORT & BLOFELD. Hittesh
  2. So how does a Web Developer learn then? Certified course?
  3. So would they provide the API for it or is it freely available? Hittesh
  4. Hi Guys, Was wondering how to intergrate a payment gateway? My client doesnt want to do paypal at the moment. He deals with HSBC and wants customers to insert their debit / credit card details and process the payment? Any idea how to do this? I have tried finding scripts but all of them use paypal. I wanna use something that has Visa / Mastercard etc. I do know that the client needs to have a Merchant account but do they provide an API or bunch of codes for the developer to use. Please help. Hittesh
  5. Thanks, thats a really good resource.
  6. Hi , thanks for your answer, but i used two things to make it work, ob_start() function and application/x-download. Thanks for the info . Regards, Hittesh
  7. Hey Guys, Does any one know how to display files from my FTP directories? I have managed to display files, but i also want to download them. The problem is it works on my local server, but when I run the PHP script on my hosting server, instead of downloading it , it display the file in the browser. I have even changed the Content-type in the header to the MIME type of the document, but it still doesnt work. I have attached the script for anyone to look into. Thanks everyone. <?php $name="hittesh"; //Current Users folder echo "<form method='get' action='$_SERVER[php_SELF]'>"; if ($handle = opendir($name)) { while (false !== ($file = readdir($handle))) { if ($file != "." && $file != "..") { $filebase=basename($file); echo $dirname="/".$name."/".$filebase; echo "<a href='$_SERVER[php_SELF]?mode=download&file=$file'>$file</a> "; echo "<a href='$dirname'>$file</a> "; } if(isset($_GET['mode'])){ function getmimetype ($filename) { static $mimes = array( '\.jpg$|\.jpeg => 'image/jpeg', '\.gif => 'image/gif', '\.png => 'image/png', '\.html$|\.html => 'text/html', '\.txt$|\.asc => 'text/plain', '\.xml$|\.xsl => 'application/xml', '\.pdf => 'application/pdf', '\.doc => 'application/msword' ); foreach ($mimes as $regex => $mime) { if (eregi($regex, $filename)) return $mime; } // return 'application/octet-stream'; return 'text/plain'; } if (file_exists(getcwd()."/".$name."/".$_GET['file'])) { header('Content-Description: File Transfer'); header('Content-Type: ' . getmimetype($_GET['file'])); header('Content-Disposition: attachment; filename='.basename($_GET['file'])); header('Content-Transfer-Encoding: binary'); header('Expires: 0'); header('Cache-Control: must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0'); header('Pragma: public'); header('Content-Length: ' . filesize($_GET['file'])); ob_clean(); flush(); readfile(getcwd()."/".$name."/".$_GET['file']); exit; } } } echo "Outside".$file."<br/>"; closedir($handle); } echo "</form>"; $curr_user_folder=""; echo $_SERVER['PHP_SELF']."<br/>"; echo "S Name: ".$_SERVER['SERVER_NAME']; echo "CWD".getcwd() . 11. Hi Guys, I first joined this forum around Sep 2010 when i got my first job as a Web Designer/Developer. Over this period of time,I may not be an expert yet but I have learnt a lot. I finally had the chance to "test" what I learnt in college and have some practical knowledge of how things work. Also, I had a handful of clients to work with. I also managed to knock up a small portfolio for meself. I am also familair with the workings of Wordpress, Joomla and Drupal. Alright, my point is, apart from my work, I would really like to gain some more experience and get into freelancing, especially projects that involves PHP with a bit of HTML,CSS ( I am more of a developer than a designer, but i can design a decent page and work with a bit of PS here and there). Where do i start? I saw them freelancing sites where you register yourself and "bid"?! Really dont know what bid is all about. Is there anything else to start as a freelancer. I would like to start doing small PHP projects and then jump to big ones based on the experience I have gained.I do have a lot of PHP knowledge, but I really lack the understanding on how to work with a client, who needs something fast and abiding to his tantrums etc. as I am only used to doing PHP projects for my college submissions. Sorry if i sound like a pussy cat in this post..lol.. but i really need some confidence to start my freelancing project and if anyone knows of any fairly small freelancing projects(money does not matter to me at this stage), it would be a great stepping stone for me. Thanks all
