    I think the blue is definitely easier to read for the main text; the white headings are fine as they have a slight drop shadow that keeps them legible. I personally prefer it in white but it is easier to read in blue so it is probably an improvement.
     
    I guess the only alternative is to darken the background of the boxes slightly and keep the white.
     
    All in all, blue makes for a more accessible website and doesn't detract from the overall look by much at all

    My vote goes for either 40% or 50%.
     
    I agree this seems the way forward rather than the blue text; white just feels right for the site.

    I've got the pencil and paper out at work and had another, simpler idea. I think it's more suitable for a logo as there's less detail but it hopefully still tells a story.
     
    It's only an idea for now (don't have PS or illustrator at work so I'll draw it up tonight)

    I would say for your first website it is very good!
     
    I would change the background as it is not a smooth gradient.
