Hi all, I'm planning on stating my first portfolio, I’m pretty new to web design but I want to slowly start getting a portfolio together. So what do I really need to put on there? As I’ve only really got some PSD's at the moment in which I will be coding up in html/css. Can I put these on as just PSD's and then when I’m ready put on the live versions? Also is there any need to show my code? Or is there no need because people can just view the source. This is all rough planning at the moment, like I said I’m new to all this but getting my own portfolio up and running is a start. Any tips or advice would be much appreciated.

Hi, Ok, I've been wondering this for a while now, for those of you that are familiar with it - the playstation network store on the ps3 is similar to a website i.e you "browse" around clicking, there are links, photos, you download things etc and its updated every now and again, thus like a website. But it seems so much more advanced than your everyday websites, the graphics the functionality the design its all there working nicely. It's almost like a look into the future at how websites might be. So why is this? Is it just simply the way it was all designed and integrated with the ps3? I'm guessing its not all put together with web technologies such as html/css/php, but maybe made using c++ I don't know, any ideas?

Hi all, I've been trying to download notepad++ for my mac, but its not having any of it. When I go to certain websites and download the link(s) it seems to download and when I open the files up it just doesn't seem to have downloaded properly. I didn't think it would be this difficult to get Notepad++ :0( Can someone send me a link or throw some advice on how to get Notepad++ please!!! Thanks

Hi, Ok, every tutorial I seem to come across for coding up a Photoshop psd is always with Dreamweaver, but as I don't have Dreamweaver I just want to be able to do it with my standard Text-Editor. Can someone point me in the right direction of how this is done or know of any tutorials for this?? Many Thanks.

Hello, Can someone advice me wheather is it worth getting Photoshop / Dreamweaver Student Editions? My free trails are now coming to the end and I just can’t afford the full-editions as yet. What to do - stick with other free tails or just go for student editions?

What are your opinions on web sites/design being seen as ART? Lets take video-games for example which came about 20 or so years ahead of the web/internet, but only now they are really being seen as ART. So how will web sites evolve over time and are they now or will they be seen as a type of ART form?

No way 5 months is definitely not, your right! If years is what it takes thats totally understandable, of course its just a hobby now. So learning HTML/CSS and Photoshop is the right way to go then? Thanks

Hello there, I would love some expert advise in how to do what we all love here as a career. I've been learning & doing some web design now for about 5 months (not long I know) but I think i'm defiantly picking it up nicely. I've learnt the basics of HTML and still learning, i've now got hold of photoshop and dreamweaver and have been designing psd's. What I want to do next is have around 4 or 5 pages and then eventually put them all together as a fully working site. I don't want to just let dreamweaver do all the coding etc for me as I want to learn CSS and code it all up myself, as coding is one main factor to know to land yourself a job. So is this the right way to go about learning HTML/CSS Photoshop/Dreamweaver & web design in general? Even if it takes me 1-2 years or how ever long to become competent at all this, I'm I on the right path to pursuing a career in web design? Also I here stories of professional web designers getting where they are today by pure self-teaching and no education, is this achievable with no qualifications as I have no time for full-time education.
