  4. Have you gotten used to the new interface yet? Heres’s a tip that will make you love it. As you probably already know, pressing the Tab key will hide all the palettes. Ok you knew that, so it’s not the tip, here’s the tip. If you roll your mouse to the left or right edge of the screen, the palettes will pop out for your use. Make your selection and then roll back to your image and the palettes will disappear again.
  5. Paste Inside Here's a big favorite of mine. The Paste Inside property of Fireworks allows you to paste an image inside an object. You can get really amazing images in the shape of circles, hearts, ovals, diamonds etc. here's what you need to do: 1. Make the shape that you want using the ordinary shape tools found in your toolbar (e.g. circle, rectangle etc.) 2. Place the photograph within the shape 3. Select the image and cut it (Cntrl +X) 4. Then select the shape and click on Edit>Paste Inside (Cntrl+Shift+V) 5. The picture is now placed within the shape. If you want to move the picture within the shape, click on the white arrow in the toolbar and select the picture. Now you can move the image within the shape to get the perfect position. The image and the shape is now an object. If you select the object with the usual select tool, you can add cool effects like an inner bevel or a drop shadow. Play around with it and you can get some really professional looking graphics. You can also paste multiple images within a given shape.
  6. L.W. from Pickens, SC using Windows and Photoshop 7 wrote in with this "emergency" > I had downloaded a free plug in at one time. > it allowed me to take a color pic, put a layer on it, > change it to black and white. > then i could take the eraser tool and "erase" the color back into the pic. > i could use this on hair bows, ribbons, etc. > i cannot find it again. can you help? Dear L.W.: We do not know about that plug-in, however, we don't believe you need it. Follow this is a very basic, and very easy tutorial and you'll know how the plug-in did the magic. This works in all image editors that support layers and layer masks. NOTE Open the file you wish to modify NOTE Choose: Layers > New Adjustment Layer > Hue / Saturation The Hue Saturation dialog will open, and a new adjustment layer will appear. NOTE Slide the saturation slider all the way to the left to remove all color. You may want to adjust contrast/brightness if the resulting black and white image doesn't appeal to you. NOTE Open the demonstration diagram (It will open in a separate window so you can continue reading this tutorial) NOTE Click once on the WHITE layer mask generated by the adjustment layer (2) NOTE Tap the letter "D" to set your foreground color to BLACK NOTE Tap the letter "B" to select the Brush Tool, and in the Options bar above set the brush to a medium softness, and an appropriate size for working with your image NOTE Now move into the image window and begin painting over the part of the image you wish to be in color. Painting BLACK into the white adjustment layer's mask will "erase" it to reveal the color subject below. Change brush sizes as needed. You could also use the Lasso Tool (L) to make a selection, and then Alt/Delete (Option/Delete) to fill the selection with black and accomplish the very same thing. NOTE That's all there is to it.
