Floating Panel
Firstly, apologies for this question as it is probably going to have an insanely obvious answer! I am currently designing a website for a friend again and I have a fixed background photo as they requested. I have my banner and navigation bar in place. But on the home page they want a "floating" panel with rounded corners to sit about an inch below the navigation bar. Thus it will still show the background image around all 4 sides. I have tried my best to do this, but have come across a minor problem. When I place the panel and therefore adjust the padding so that the box can be an inch below the navigation bar, I find that it does not always stay in that position once uploaded. They just want text in this panel and of course want it centered as much as possible. But after I upload this, the text can either be too high or too low. Unfortunately, in my frustration and pulling out mounds of hair. I have taken this page down from the website and STUPIDLY deleted the page along with the CSS, so I can not provide any code at the moment. I know how I want it to look, I am just having a hard time getting it that way and trying to explain it, it would seem!!! Any help would be appreciated before I am bald with frustration!!!!

Possible PayPal Integration
Okay so on all the websites I have done so far, they have all been sites that are general information to the public. So fairly easy to put together with one or two tweaks involved. However, this has all changed now. A friend of mine wants a website as she sells about 5 different products on eBay that sell really well. I have looked into this whole PayPal integration thing. But I was wondering if anyone heard of an easier way to get round this. Basically my friend wants one of the pages to have the products on, you click on it for more information and then if you want to buy it, that will then take you to PayPal etc etc. From what I have quickly read though, the PayPal integration thing seems fairly complicated? If anyone can help me out or give me a link that breaks this down into a few simplistic terms I would appreciate it. Thanks as always for any help (and sorry if I posted this in the wrong section)

Website interactive banner type thing...
Hi there, Going to keep this quite short and sweet really as I have tried looking everywhere for something that will give me more information and so in my frustration I turn to you LOVELY people (sense the desperation). If you have a look at www.three.co.uk one of my friends is wanting a very similar interactive banner to the banner on this page where the mobile phones seem to slide from bottom to top etc by click on the little headers at the bottom. I initially thought this was something done through Flash (shows what I know). Can anyone guide me to a tutorial, or something of this nature so that I can get a better understanding of it? Sorry if I have been at all vague or this has been posted in the wrong section and many thanks as always for any help guys!!!

Email Link
Hi guys, Sorry to ask a ridiculous question. I have tried to find the answer but not having much luck out there. I am putting a "Contact" link on a website for my client. And obviously I know how to create this so that the default email client opens this up with the email address added. However, I have noticed from other websites that by clicking this link it not only fills out the email address but the subject line too? Bearing in mind I am using Dreamweaver so putting the basic link with email address is simple. But because I plan on putting this CONTACT link on many different parts of the site. The subject line being filled out will just add a little more personal feel for the target audience. Many thanks for any help and advice anyone can give in advance! Chris

Hi guys, new here!
Hi Fulla, Welcome to the forum. I am a newcomer here too and have already found loads of helpful links and advice. Hope you enjoy your stay

Is my design too boring?
Yep, got to agree with the above, I love websites that mainly concentrate on a white background with subtle colourful icons. Looks clean and does exactly what it says its going to do. When a potential client comes to view your site, there will not be any distractions of any kind which is realistically what you want.

Internet Explorer X Problem
That is actually a very good idea... makes a hell of a lot more sense that combing the internet only to find tutorials for things that are completely irrelevant (happened about 5 times now!!!). And I know you are saying not to steal code I wouldn't do such a thing anyway, I prefer to be unique. the other half tells me this all the time. But I don't think its in the complimentary sense :'(

Internet Explorer X Problem
Hi again Ashley, thanks for getting back to me so quick. I have just looked this up and yes Photoshop definitely exports everything into tables (rather annoying really!!!) I guess I just need to look online about all the different ways of using just CSS without tables (I am just that new to this whole side of it!) Now to find a site that will guide me through this whole process and teach me CSS WITHOUT tables... how depressing lol

Internet Explorer X Problem
Hi Ashley, Intriguing point you brought up. The general layout was designed in Photoshop, sliced, exported in a HTML document and then CSS was applied. Having designed a website for myself YEARS ago using tables I know they can look awful. So I was quite surprised to see that when I exported the site from PS to DW it looked like it was all held together in a table (which I was not overly struck on). I used CSS and some DIVS in the exported version but was still not 100% with it. I like designing the layouts in PS as you can put things exactly how you want them with minimal fuss, but just need to work out another way of transferring it from there into DW in a much "cleaner" way. I am sure the above doesn't make sense, but I know what I mean!

New member saying hello!
Aww thanks for all the welcomes. Have to say you're all much nicer than some of the other forums I have been floating around on. Think I will put me slippers on and rest here from now on though. Have already sorted out one of the problems I was having which was so incredibly simple I ended up banging my head on my desk repeatedly. I fear there are many more of these to come over the next few months! EEK!

Internet Explorer X Problem
Okay... firstly Wickham. Thanks a million for pointing me to that website. Why the DOC TYPE is missing from all my pages is a complete mystery. Especially when Dreamweaver automatically fills it out for me when I start a new page? So I am at a complete loss as to why its either not put it in there or its been deleted at some point. But after putting it in the site works perfectly and everything is centered like it should be! Also Superpositionkitty that site is amazing and bookmarked too, never knew that something like that existed. Will certainly make designing things 100 times easier. Thank you both, you have helped me out of one of those annoying situations!!! Chris

Internet Explorer X Problem
Okay, pleeeease be nice to me here because I am fully aware this problem will either be ludicrously simple or will end up being my coding is a complete sham!!! Right, I was asked to build a website by my partners school. They have asked me to do lots of Graphic Design work for them in the past and have always been happy. So when they asked if I could do a website for them, I knew it was possible, but told them they would have to bare with me whilst I got my feet wet! I built a website using my iMac and Dreamweaver. With every page and every step, I naturally saved the document, previewed it in Safari and with all seeming well, I moved on to the next stage. Knowing that all the browsers can be different, I naturally asked a few friends to look it up on their systems with different Operating Systems and they said that all appeared to be well (it would seem everyone I asked was using Google Chrome by the way). I was quite happy with this, partly surprised that there were no compatibility problems with IE, because I thought people has seen it using this browser. So as I dawn closer to the end of the project, I am becoming more relieved and quite happy that my first proper website has gone relatively smoothly. That was until I checked on my partners laptop, using IE8 and nearly fell on the floor!!! The website seems to display perfectly in the following browsers: Chrome, FF, Safari and Opera. The content is centered like I wanted it to be, however, when I use IE (any version) the content is always completely justified over to the left and it would appear this has happened throughout the entire website, which makes me think the problem is ludicrously simple and I am just too much of spanner to notice! I have tried to look on the forum already regarding a centering issue and wasn't coming up with much because I have asked my website to center, which it does in all the other browsers. From what I can gather the other browsers are a little more forgiving when it comes to code and they will correct / fill in the gaps to make it look correct. Where as IE is more strict (which I suppose is a good thing really). I attach the CSS code below and I just hope that someone can see the problem sticking out like a sore thumb. If you need any more info, just let me know. A thousand thanks to anyone who can help! New member saying hello!
Hi there everyone, Just thought I would pop my head round and say "hello" to you all! Found this website whilst searching frantically on google for a problem to my website (will post something in a moment). My real name is Chris, obviously it's not BabyBearUK unless I had exceptionally cruel parents!!! Though some people have now given me the alias "BBUK" in real life (sadly). I have spent multiple years doing Graphic Designs for people ranging from friends to much larger established companies and have now decided to go completely freelance (scary stuff!). But seeing how I was JUST doing Graphic Design, I felt that I should break off into the web design world too. I already know "a bit" and I must put emphasis on that as there is still so much that I do not know about. But I am one of these people who loves to learn about things and when I carry that new knowledge on to a project I am working on, it makes me quite proud! Anyways, I am sure I will have a thousand and one questions over the next few weeks, months and years so I will already say a very big thank you to anyone who is able to help with a problem I may have. Now to create my first "problem" post... I am sure it wont be the last!!! Many thanks and hope to speak with you all soon! Chris
