Empek just gave me a serious case of the munchies. Must have a pastry! The photography on that Circos site is a good example of what mrchristoph should be after. Agree with the typography statements but it sounds like you're working on that anyway. Happy designing!

I use liquid layouts all the time but wouldn't recommend doing it the way Wickham suggested-- which would, indeed, let the site squish and stretch too much. If you use a liquid layout you need min-width and max-width and it's very easy to accommodate IE6. The best liquid layout I've found is on matthewjamestaylor.com and it works perfectly in IE6. They might have something at alistapart.com too. Terydinho is right- 960 is pretty common for fixed width and it should work for the vast majority of visitors. I just looked at the site stats for a few of my clients and 3-5% of their visitors had 800x600. That's enough for me to justify a little extra work and now I have css that I can easily tweak so it doesn't take much time. I usually stretch from 750 to 950 or so. Not much but it takes care of the 3-5%. Mobile users are a different problem alltogether. If you expect to have a lot of mobile users to your site, you can give them a different version of the site or give them a different stylesheet.

As long as your client's audience is after high quality (which seems to be the case), they might place a premium on nice graphics and be willing to wait. It annoyed me a little but the graphics are really nice. You did great with the trendy walls. One thing to change: I'd add just a tiny bit of space between "a" and "n" on "canvas" in the upper-left. It was a bit difficult to read. Good job though. Hope the client's happy.

Hello everybody, I recently left my corporate job in California and started freelancing in the UK because my wife got a job here to live closer to family. I can't say I'm a fan of English weather but I am liking the change in pace (and the football). My background is in software/web development and project management and, altough I'm not horrible at design, I know I have loads to learn so I'm trying to pick up as much as I can from friends and forums like this one.
