  1. thank you T_break all questions answered. don
  2. thank you bocaj, ill take a look at those also. When you upload does it go anywhere specific. sorry to drag this on, as i mentioned i only used a cms thus far and it seems all is done for you to a certain extent. thanks don
  3. Ok thank you T Break ill take a look at those. So you use notepad to code, ive heard of nnotepad ++ or something...., and the uploading thing you use filezilla or something...
  4. I am very new to design hence the title, and thus far have only used a cms (joomla) to create a site for the business i work for. It is apparently ideal for there needs as they do not need any basket or anything like that. All is ok at the moment but i know i got to get into html etc at some point. My question is when i purschased my webspace i got a thing called fantastico which had lots of software , joomla , mambo and loads more to choose from. From there you install and your away. As im doing this with joomla i know i probably need to look at this package...dreamweaver. Thats all fine but joomla was already built in and i go to my admin with a link. Hows this work....im slightly lost. Do you code it in dreamweaver then upload with ftp client such as filezilla. I want to learn things properyl and not live and work with just cms, as i know its wrong.
  5. Guys ive seen on the net good reports on artisteer, can you share your opinions. Im new to web design and ive used this software and it makes it easy but i bet theres a catch that you people will make me aware of....look forward to hearing back. don
  6. Hi guys a short time ago i started a website similar to this and got a fairly positive feedback. If you be so kind id like you to take a look at this see what u think and be totally honest once more. I will be selling this site to the existing company i work for, benefit for me is its a family member who runs it. I do want it to a good standard though and professional look. Anyway let me know...www.nt-uk.com Much appreciated Don
  7. blue dreamer thanks for the heads up, im going to have another stab at joomla. As ive dabbled with it already it would seem daft to switch to something else. I have another site to do for my wife in the future which is a new business ( wish i had this 1 first to be honest). I had a problem with joomla when i fiddled with keywords in global config, im not quite sure what happened but some of the pages on my website lost the template in the background...anyway ill sort that when i get to it again....once again thx Don
  8. thanks bluedreamer. ok lets have a go 1, the site needs to be customizable by the customer and easily nothing too complicated. 2, It needs to be able to display approximately 500+ products all with pictures, brief description with our referance/code to them. There will be approx 6 sections to this..Agriculture, Pet, Equine, Poultry, Workshop & maintenance. 3, It needs a contact page to enquiries for the relevant products i.e sales 4, Small gallery displaying company pics 5, The company has many promotions/news going on month after month. I would like to display the promos on the front page for a period of time but after then going into an archived section but still accesible. 6, keywords, meta data....know very little on this but i know for search engines it will need this involved. 7, may need to put a links section in the future. That is the initial description and with the nature of the company being a manufacturing company a cart system is not essential. We are not selling to the direct public.
  9. I displayed my website roughly one month ago and was satisfied with the attempt thus far. Yesterday i spent some time checking keywords and this meta data thing. I reworked it so it suggested things relevant to what my website does etc,as you are supposed to. This morning i went onto the site and home was fine. clicked onto a tab into the main menu and it displayed a white page, with black text, completely incorrect from what should be there. After checking the joomla forums i have found myself only making the situation worse and to the stage where i couldnt get onto the admin area of my site....so i deleted the whole thing in a fit of rage (probabley wrong of me). It has been interesting learning joomla so far ( a little frustrating) and i probably only scratched on the surface but before i go on i would like to maybe check into and ask some advice as to what step do you think would be a smart move. Should i check another cms such as mambo/ drupal or maybe something completely different . The kind of site i am creating is for a fair sized agricultural business with prob in excess of 500+ products(yes lots of articles). They are a manufacturing company and are lunching new products month after month. There current website is dated and although i started this as a bit of a hobby and to learn something new i feel i may have bitten off more than i can chew with the shear size of the company. As a first site starting again after the 1st flop i would request your input/ suggestion before going hammering into it. So to clarify the question once more..what sort of cms for the above would you recommed?, any other pointers also... This is my grandfathers company by the way and i have plenty of time at the moment. regards Don
  10. posted in wrong forum...apoligies

  12. 404 - Component not found You may not be able to visit this page because of: an out-of-date bookmark/favourite a search engine that has an out-of-date listing for this site a mistyped address you have no access to this page The requested resource was not found. An error has occurred while processing your request If you go to home page its fine then click on agriculture its all gone wierd. www.nt-uk.com Last night i messed about with the global config metadata / keywords etc. Only question i have is the pages are being displayed not according to the background / theme, basically they are all white and the text is completely out of position. Will this rectify itself once the search engines update ...im a little lost. The home page is fine however.....thx Don ps joomla is the cms
  13. The reason for that colour and template was mainly down to the fact it is an agricultural company and with the grass effect at the bottom etc it just seem to fit. Im sorry smooth but a lot after that went over my head...still learning. But thx for your feedback, you also Acej
  14. I am currently upto date with the latest joomla patch...1.5.11. All seems ok thus far but thanks for the heads up.
  15. i had it with fantastico and at the time it seemed the easy option, there was a few others drupal andphp nuke etc. Slightly worried now ...the barge pole thing..something i need to know?
