I'm happy to have a linux one, and don't care what colour it is, but figure I'd rather the 8.9 to the 7" screen. August 4, 200818 yr 700 = 4GB hard drive. "Old" (or if you prefer "classic" / "vintage" ) style of Asus EEE. The 900 has done really badly in the reviews. The 901 is everything the 900 should have been, and more. Battery lasts for like... a month and a half. (Okay, so not that long, but definitely longer than you might need - more like 6+ hours). It gives you a 10" screen and an 80GB hard drive. The battery won't last as long though I guess you need to work out exactly what you need from a laptop. The EEEs are "ultra portable" meaning they're designed to be used out and about. They're small, they're light, they're easy to carry around. Insanely powerful machines they are not; after all, that's what your desktop machine is for. What would be of more benefit to you? Hard disk space vs Battery life, etc.

August 4, 200818 yr Author I'm more worried about price than colour, so whatever colour is cheapest. I want to get it to help me finish off my dissertation. I am not sure if I'll need it after that, so come mid September I might have a month old EEE PC for sale

August 5, 200818 yr How have you found working with it to be? Its really great. It will run just about ANYTHING i throw at it - It runs Photoshop CS3, is based on XP Home but will run Vista or Linux and has a 1/6ghz intel atom and a 80gb hdd. The screen is fantastic. 7" is wayy too small, this is 10" and its perfect. Keyboard is fantastic, and its definately alot better than the other netbooks ive tested (Elonex webbook @ carphone, really rubbish, the EEE PC 701, and some other one as well) I'd wholeheartedly recommend it.
August 5, 200818 yr Yeh, its not great, but i took the sacrifice over waiting another 3 months for a bigger batt. I'll upgrade when the 6cell is out.

August 6, 200818 yr See, I can type fairly quickly with the touch screen keyboard on an LG viewty, so small keyboards don't really bother me. But that's the thing with laptops... each to their own. What's right for one person might not be right for another person.
