Hello all.

I have been trying to find a code resource for embedding an online flipbook into a website, unsuccessfully. I see several online publishing companies who want to charge an arm and a leg for providing such a service, with the flipbook needing to be hosted on their site.  

This is a simple 30 page booklet and I don't need anything fancy. Is there any freely available code for embedding such a project into a page?

What do you mean bu a flipbook?

Do you mean some sort of slider thing where people can skim though each page?

How did you create the flipbook? Where is is hosted?

Why do you think this is the best way to present content?

Can you show us an example of what you want?

Yes, you are correct about the slider effect.

A friend has asked me to publish his 30 page booklet online. I am currently building his website. So I haven't actually created it yet.

I am hoping to find an app which will let me import images, be they pdf or jpg, etc. into such a slider type app and then present this on one of the pages on his site. I am looking for any appropriate code which can create this effect.

Worst idea ever.

copy the content from the booklet onto the site. Create a set of interlinked pages so visitors can navigate to the bits they want to read.

Apologies for the delay getting back to you. 

I like the look of the work on the Lumatic site. It has all the tools I think anybody would want need, i.e. magnifying glass. You say to use the Flip PDF. I will look into this. I see there are also a few other sites which offer similar software. This is now beginning to look possible. 

As for the individual page, that is also another option, keeping it simple too. I could also add a magnifier.

Did you look at that site on your phone? Flipbooks just don’t work on small screens. Try to dissuade your client from doing this.

Tested on two phones and it works perfectly. I must admit I am surprised. I expected glitches or something which wasn't quite right, but it's all fine.

Noooooooo! Don’t do this. As bad an idea as using a flip book. Google likes responsive sites. It like to see a site that works on all devices. In 2021 when web core vitals comes into force cross device performance will be a key ranking signal.

And in a months time when they aren’t ranked for anything and the few visitors they do get aren’t converting it will all be your fault.

It's true that it *is* what the client wanted, but what is the problem? The flipbook is embedded within the site, although it will ultimately be hosted on a different server, the site itself is a 'responsive' site. 

I think the word 'Responsive' is overused and over-hyped. The site adapts to the users viewing environment. So what? Sites have been doing that long before the word Responsive came into this. "But it's RESPONSIVE". How about "It WORKS".

Google search rankings? A gamble at the very least. I have had a lot of success with rankings over the years, but rankings just cannot be guaranteed these days, not without paying a lot of extra dosh for the privilege. But is it guaranteed? Ever? You'll end up changing something or other to adapt to new search engine algorithms in no time. When I make a site for my customers, I make it exactly as they want it. After all, it's their site and they are paying for it. I offer advice on the best way to go that I know. If they can choose a unique name or something striking then that gives them the best chance of higher rankings. Tell me I'm wrong.

Ranking can be guaranteed (if you do it right) without paying a penny.
