February 20, 20206 yr Hi. I had a quick look around, and couldn't see this topic here recently. Does anyone here maintain their own blog? I do, as part of my portfolio website. It's not really a marketing tool as I'm currently employed and not freelancing. It kinda just lets me say what I want to say. 🙂 Wouldn't hurt to have more comments and traffic on it though. If you have a blog and keep it maintained, what topics are you currently writing about? Is it for fun, or to market your services?
February 20, 20206 yr I stopped blogging a couple of years back. It didn’t bring in much new business so I gave up and focused on marketing.
February 20, 20206 yr I started a blog in around 2015 and stopped shortly after but having been working as an employee and contractor I didn't really need it to market myself, having big companies and strong reputation within them has strengthened my CV and references. I've had a few positions where I was headhunted based on people I've previously worked with wanting me on their team. If you're freelancing or consulting I think having a blog makes more sense. I'd only do it as a permie if it's something you actually enjoy doing which I do not. This appears to be the story of 99% of web developers and software engineers.
