hi all! im new here and would like some critiques regarding my portfolio. it's just a simple design and nothing too fancy as i believe that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. i would like some opinions so i have an idea which areas i need to improve.

 

by the way, i'm used at harsh critique so you don't have to worry about hurting my feelings.. =)

I think it's a nice design, but I also think it has a couple of issues. The main thing for me is that the big image with all the words on it completely dominates the page, and pushes the majority of your content below the fold. Also, the fact that the image remains the same on every page is not contributing anything further to the site.

My other thought was 'why haven't you used any colour?' It's almost like you're a graphic designer on a budget and you've forgotten that colour is free on the web. I think the black and white is effective to a point, and original, but I also think the site quickly looks too samey as you work through the pages.

The theme itself with the monkey and bananas etc is great - very nice touch. Code looks great too.

I think your site has very strong potential which just needs bringing out. Thanks for posting.

thanks guys! some of you might be wondering why i choose a monkey as my logo? well, the reason behind it is that monkey is known to be playful and passionate and so as we, grpahic designers/artist. why afro? because i believe that i'm a playful designer with style. you might have not noticed but i have used my initial(AP) to complete the said character. Lastly, black and white because i like simple things and being classic.

i appreciate your comment.. actually i am working on some illustrations that will replace the current banner so basically it's just a place holder which i quickly throw in it. if i don't get you wrong, you're suggesting for a different banner in each succeeding pages? i'm not sure if it's a good idea but will definitely give it a try and see if it works well with the deisgn.

i think your totally not getting me. what i have shown you is my old portfolio. i know it's visually appealing but i believed i have outgrown that style. i am more focused now on showcasing my works effectively rather than having an over the top website which may bring it's purpose down to the fold.
