December 20, 20169 yr Hi, I've recently encountered with this new tv shows streaming website. Now, here is the story, I use to browse those website and all the time popups jump on my screen, viruses, etc. But this website just don't have ads so I strated to suspicious. Do you think they have some kind of secret method to inject viruses into your computer or it's just a safe and regular site? This is the website: DirecTVFree Your help is appreciated! Thanks!
December 21, 20169 yr Maybe it's impossible for the average Joe (like me) to know what the risks really are, if any. On the couple of TV episodes I clicked on (on that site), I didn't see any popups. I occasionally enjoy using similar sites like these to watch movies (I haven't used this particular site). Before doing so, I usually have Malwarebytes installed, plus an ad blocker or tracker detector of some sort within the browser. But let's be honest, these are consumer extensions like Ghostery, uBlock Origin or AdBlock, not anti-government anti-spyware apps. These for me tend to stop popups, because there usually are some on this type of site. You also get to see Malwarebytes showing that it's blocking links in real time on these types of sites, which means it's possibly stopping something undesirable happening in the background, especially at the time you start a movie. Again, on your site (at the moment) there didn't appear to be anything going on. Needless to say using some of these `free movie' sites isn't ideal for some, or questionably ethical, but it does make for a decent movie experience every now and then. (I haven't had a TV for about 10 years.) Obviously, if we are really paranoid about being tracked or hacked, then we can stay off the grid completely. If I were using my PC for important business work or using my credit card or bank details, then I'd certainly be more careful with various surfing online. I might even use a different operating system like Qubes or Tails, instead of Windows. There often seems to be a catch for offering something free. I used to even consider that there might be subliminal messages in the actual videos. But who knows. This news and this news just yesterday reminded me of the big boys in the world of online fraud or deception. It's a jungle out there!
