Newbie Question: What is 1&1 PHP5.4 Extended Support?

Featured Replies

I got 3 domains with 1and1. Domains without hosting.

They are charging me £5.31 per month for this Extended Support and they invoice me every 3 months for that on top of my basic fee for the domains. I am now questioning it. Silly me.

Just wondering what support I get as I haven't noticed any support.

If 1&1 aren't hosting your sites you don't need this support. I'm assuming you are only using then as the registrar and redirecting elsewhere.

Not sure about that specific package, but 5.4 is deprecated. You want to be on 5.6 at the least and ideally php 7. Php 7 is much faster, but you'll need to make sure your code is PHP 7 compatible to run in a PHP 7 environment. If your site happens to be WP, you can use this PHP 7 compatibility checker to see if your site is ready to upgrade to 7. https://wordpress.org/plugins/php-compatibility-checker/. Good luck!

Its quite common, in my experience, that people pay for hosting packages with their domain registrar when they are actually hosted elsewhere. Mainly a lack of understanding of the basics.
