October 18, 201610 yr So I (a WordPress Developer) have moved countries and landed in London. I have absolutely no connections here no knowledge about the city and how to go about advertising, where to be in order to find potential clients etc. Any advice on how can I secure myself some sort of a workflow would be appreciated. Where to advertise? How does it work in London? How did you do it? In IE I was usually contacted by people who heard about me from my previous customers but it was soo slow beside I was living in remote area and in effect not so many websites in my portfolio. There is so many people here I feel like I'm on a different planet!
October 25, 20169 yr Check out Meetup for local design meetups on London, you may be able to make some worthwhile connections.
November 5, 20169 yr Go out and talk to people?! I've just moved to London myself, but taken a job as a web developer. Maybe one day I will do freelance but I reckon I can learn far quicker in an agency, and not just about code itself.
December 20, 20169 yr Hi bituneasy0, welcome to London! I reckon it's hard to get established in any new location - but at least London has tons of opportunities. I second the suggestion to go to MeetUps, there are tons of them available. Eg: https://www.meetup.com/London-WordPress/. These are your peers so probably don't have work for you but you can ask them where they find work. There is also a lot of startup activity in London. Start at Google Campus (Old Street) and start talking to people. Chances are there are startups looking for a marketing site. They also have a noticeboard where you can advertise your services. Finally, there are TONS of design agencies in London, many of which rely almost exclusively on tech freelancers. I don't know what your level is - but grab yourself a list of agencies (http://www.design-intellect.co.uk/top_50_design_agencies_list.html) and start talking to studio managers. [this is where I spent most of my freelance career before moving on to startups] Finally, give the recruitment companies a try. They have a bad rep but could lead to a few early pieces of work. Best of luck, happy to help if you have more questions.
