I've done a small site for a friend and I'm looking for a free or cheap HTML editor for them to download/buy so that they can update the site themselves. He just needs to be able to update the text and links on the site, nothing fancy, as it's a very simple site.

 

Can anyone recommend anything. I've done a search on google and there's tons of software out there all saying that they're the best etc...it's difficult to choose and I don't fancy spending a day downloading them all and trying them out [i will if I have to] so I thought I'd see if anyone could recomend anything.

I reccomend NVU

Thanks for the tip. I had a read through the support and FAQ pages and came across this:

 

"Your web pages can have the extension .htm or .html but you should pick only one"

 

does that mean if my site is coded with PHP and uses includes etc, I won't be able to use NVU?

nope NVU works with PHP pages too. Dunno why they put that.

if the website you are talking about is in php, why not code a CMS for him so he can just add/edit/delete anything directly from his browser?

I'm not a programmer so not capable of rustling up a quick CMS in my lunch hour! If I could do that, don't you think I would!

who says you have to do it that fast, and if you need help with it I'm sure people will help a hand, I can code cms's.(but got exams these 2 weeks ;( )

Sorry for the flippant reply - I'm having a stressful day!

 

But honestly, if I could build a CMS I would, but I can't and so that's why I was looking for an easy to use html editor. My friend has managed to get himself a copy od Contribute, so I'm sure he'll get along fine with that.

You could always just teach him some basic HTML and he can use notepad to update his pages.

Not to mention a CMS would have to be built around navigation as well, as he did request that.

 

But yeah, like Surge said, he can always just try out notepad? If you comment in some highlighted areas to show him where the navigation goes, he might understand.
