July 7, 200818 yr Yeah, i think O2 have messed it up a bit, even though they have had all the time in the world to prepare. Site went down for hours and now someone has written this in their forum: 'I have just called O2 to double check my order that i done online this morning im a new O2 user and mu order went all ok i even got a order ref number. they have said that my order has been cancelled as im new to O2 and the orders today are only open to pre iphone users and upgrade. i said that the online shop let me buy it as a new user, and it should not have let me and i have been tole i have to wait till friday then i can get one. ' Will have to wait and see...kind of just wishing I just popped into the shop after work on friday now!
July 7, 200818 yr Author Well that sucks… it'll be interesting to see how it pans out. I doubt they'd have made an error that big by letting new users order iphones and then cancelling them. It doesn't say anywhere on the website that that is the case. [Edit] And upgrades are on a completely separate part of the website as well… https://upgrades.o2.co.uk/ [Edit again] Looks like they've sold out / done something wrong – Message on their shop –> "Please note: iPhone 3G 16GB Black is currently not available."
July 7, 200818 yr Lol yeah you'd hope not...maybe those who have had it cancelled have just failed the credit checks. Just a case of waiting and seeing I guess! [Edit] Yeah i saw the 16gb had sold out...hopefully got my order in early enough
July 7, 200818 yr Author Aye I was just reading the o2 forum and it looks like the cancelled people are the ones who either needed a credit check or ordered later in the day. Sort of glad I didn't go for the 16gb one now, there are loads of the 8gb ones left it looks like!

July 7, 200818 yr Lol, I wouldn't worry. By Friday so many of the orders will have been done online. I'm sure you'll have no prob picking one up at an 02/carphone warehouse shop after work. Like Rob said, i'm not too hopeful either and I ordered at 8am!

Existing users have had loads of problems with the website and were unable to order at all for hours... [Edit] May want to look at link here Stock has run out.

Existing users have to go through a different method, and this is where all the problems were happening. I wonder how many iPhones were pre-ordered from 8am to when they ran out.

I just wish o2 would say something about what's happened, at least if I know my order is cancelled I'll be able to check out the local Apple store on the weekend. I just can't believe how shoddy and unprepared o2 have been about the whole affair. It's totally knocked my confidence in them, but I have no choice if I want an iPhone

July 7, 200818 yr that o2 forum is going off lol If you've already ordered it you should get it in at least the next 2 weeks (well at least it said that when i bought it). But by the way o2 are communicating, who knows! Not really bothered, I mean i've gone my whole life without one and got by...
July 7, 200818 yr Lol yeah. I think it said something like if you do not receive your iphone on 11th due to stock, then you will receive it within the 2 weeks after. But looks like they ended up just closing it down instead when stock ran out

All they need to do is open up the iPhone to other UK networks, then we wouldn't have this problem with one network getting overrun with Apple fanbois and girls.
July 7, 200818 yr Since the o2 site has sold out I've been trying to get one from CPW (and pick it up from a store on Friday) however the registration doesn't seem to work (first said my cc number was incorrect, then my phone number is wrong (both are correct!)) - anyone else running into problems?
July 7, 200818 yr Author Afaik the CPW are out of stock too (it's linked to the o2 stock). You'll probably get an iPhone quicker than the pre-orderers by going into a store on Friday. You might have to go to a few but I bet you'll find an iPhone somewhere now the hardcore have all made their orders online.
July 7, 200818 yr From their site: "We'll deliver as many orders as possible on 11th July and then delivery may take up to 2 weeks." It's good for their marketing as well. It will be all over the news this week. 'Iphone sells out', 'thousands sold in hours',. People will know they can still get one friday in the shop and come friday there will be queues etc cos everyone wants one first. The whole thing gives them loads more free publicity...could be a mess up, or it could be to increase the hype?? This exclusivity happened with the Wii and look how many that has sold now.
July 7, 200818 yr Author I also read somewhere (<-- I hate it when people say that! ) that O2 will be dispatching orders on Friday morning with DHL for same day delivery. I hope I get some sort of notice beforehand so I can work at home…

They went on sale just before I went on the site, so I ordered one about 10 mins after opening, but still nothing. Might be because it's 16gb...or maybe they haven't got round to it yet. More likely - Mine won't be coming fri...
July 9, 200818 yr Author Yeah I think it helped that I went for the 8gb which no one wanted. I'll just have to make sure I only put my "current" music on it - to be honest I've managed ok with a 2gb iPod nano so I should be fine I ordered mine at about 8:40am on Monday so it wasn't exactly an early order. July 9, 200818 yr Called my local carphone warehouse, they're getting 5 in... 5... thats it. So I'm going to be there at 5pm on friday waiting till 7pm....thought I might drive down at 4pm to see if there's a queue yet just to be safe.
July 10, 200818 yr Shops are opening at 8am. Some shops apparently have only got 2 - 5 phones for sale! Eventually got mine confirmed for delivery tomorrow!
