January 17, 201610 yr And that's because the forum I've been posting on since 2007 now gets an overwhelming stream if 'hi I've just joined this forum' posts from new members who never return to contribute. Probably because they think Social Media Profiles still have value... Anyway, back to me. I've been building websites since the old King died. Back when Netscape 4 was the top browser and Yahoo was the place to get ranked (Google didn't even exist back then). During all the intervening years I've discovered all sorts of things. The most important of these is: it doesn't matter what you like, it only matters what a potential customer likes. I've looked at a lot of the threads in the website review forum and many of the sites look attractive but nearly all of them fail their potential - they won't convert as well as they could. And the reason is simple - people focus too much on making thing pretty where they should be focusing on the needs of the visitor. An example. A lot of sites add a huuuuuge hero image to their homepage (go to PayPal to see one). The image consultants and graphic designers will all applaud themselves over how great it looks but nobody seems to consider the visitor to the site. Not one of these hero banners help to increase conversions. All they do is get in the way. But that enough of my soapbox. I now spend most of my time developing WordPress plugins. They seem to be popular and one of them has attracted the attention of PayPal resulting in me becoming a PayPal Partner. Might not seem much to badge collectors but I think this is the first award I've has since my cycling proficiency back in 1873. Graham PS: Why can't I comment on the Website Review threads?
