Valueing domains

Featured Replies

None. Simply work out what you would be prepared to pay for a domain you want. It's a buyers market, it's not just about being catchy, its also about a domains history too.

Here's my score card.

Domain length.

The shorter the better. The simpler the spelling the better. Domains like domainz.com you will spend too much time having to say 'with a z' and possibly sending direct traffic to domains.com instead.

History

How long has the domain been owned, what was it previously been used for, any inbound links and from where, is it still hosted?

Purpose

What kind of site or service would this domain be good for? Do I need or want it? Saying false teeth are worth £500 but you will sell me them for £40 doesn't mean a thing if I don't need them. Just like personal number plates they have to mean something to the buyer.

Legality

Just because someone is selling a domain does not really mean they should. Buying certain domain extensions of established businesses could land you in hot water. Nominet for example has strict policy for ransom sales and a procedure to take the name back.

How much would you value bookmarknew.com? There's a lot of visitors for that site and I purchased it through auction. Just waiting for transfer process to complete.

It's not about how much I value a domain, it's about how much the buyer would pay for a domain.

Now you've bought it what will you do with it?

It turns out I can't sell my domain names for 60 days except skosha.com. I'll sell skosha on auction. Regarding bookmarknew.com, I can have a website built on it perhaps to make use of the traffic it gets.

The name "bookmarknew" seems not a popular one eventhough "bookmark" does.
