November 20, 201411 yr While attempting to create my first commercial website, researching the "how to?" and "do nots". It feels a complete minefield. I want to "own" my own site. Have control and edit as I please. I dont want problems swapping hosts or moving my domain or editing graphics. I want to own the logo and marketing graphics when Ive paid for them designed. Using a template design isnt quite a solution neither. Most good ones you cant own. I would like a designer to work with me on this project, do the things I am unable to do, work together. I pay him for his service but remain the owner and editor. I like to use symbolism, but cant find anything to suit the complexities involved in owning a website...the nearest would be owning a static caravan on a dodgy pitch.lol. Am I thinking about this wrong? Would appreciate some feedback.
November 20, 201411 yr Yes handing over everything to the site owner upon completion is quite normal, all you need to do is ensure it's catered for in any contract you agree to.
November 21, 201411 yr you buy domain from go daddy or sites like that, design it well according to the theme, write contents, your site is ready. The other option if you want it free, then weebly, about me, these are free profile building sites.
November 22, 201411 yr Author As said already, most Dev's will sign it over to you on completion, same with the logo and graphics (check Contract). No problems moving Host/Domain - There's never going to be a super-easy way, you'll need to learn how to export your site. Moving domains is easy, your new host will help if needed. Symbolism? You mean icons that represent what it means to own a website? You'd need to research decent icons or have them designed. No sorry, I mean symbolism to represent the creation of a commercial website generally. From a newcomers perspective its a "complicated minefield". And after creation and expense you may not actually own it, unless you check the smallprints of contracts. I am ready to take the first steps buying both domains and web space from TSO...Gulp! lol. My next step is purchasing a proper logo and marketing graphics, highly likely from one of the guys here. I have exported a domain before and also created a couple of forums, but ive not a clue how I did it!? haha. (It was in 2008). Edited November 22, 201411 yr by Neal Joseph
