June 27, 201412 yr Hi, I have an html website which has 5 pages currently, these are index.html through to index4.html. That's how the site came, its a template, the pages are the front page, contact page, services page and a couple of others. On the service page it's where I show what services I can provide the customer, now I have about 20 services I do and from the look of it I will have to create about 20 new html pages, one for each service. Is this the normal way of doing things or is their a better way? Do websites like mine have 30,40,50+ pages to them? Sorry if that sounds very newbish! Thanks for any help.
June 28, 201412 yr You need to think how big the site is likely to get. A mix of CMS and static pages would probably be a good option, the cms to control the services etc but it really depends on how many services you need. There is no 'right and wrong' here.
June 28, 201412 yr Author The entire site is just a responsive site to show the services I offer, its in computer repair so there really aren't that many services I offer in total, probably 30 max I would say.
June 28, 201412 yr Can I add to this question? It might help and I was about to post something similar... Can someone explain a couple of things 1.) in general terms, how do contemporary websites change what content is displayed at any one time? For example on this website http://hoverstud.io/about, when you click on a navigation link the top of the page, the menus etc stay put, but the center content disappears, there's a loading animation, and then new content appears shortly after. It's obviously retrieving the information from somewhere when asked to (a click) but I don't really understand the process. Is it all just Java-script? 2.) If not, what languages are used to program that sort of thing? Yeah, probably a newbie question but would be useful, thanks!
June 28, 201412 yr A typical user isn't going to need that much info that each service requires a separate page. If you really need additional info try something like collapsible and expandable content areas or heck even something like a modal. Different pages really slow down the user getting to the info they want
June 28, 201412 yr Shaddow JavaScript usually with some other technology is typically used. Something like angular would be super simple to code up to do exactly that.
July 1, 201412 yr Author Hi, Thought I would expand on what I said as I am still not sure the correct way forward and I dont think I explained myself very well. Here is a link to the template I am using :- http://www.dynamic-template.com/template/preview/85937 As you can see when you click on "Services" that on the right a list of services comes up, now I could make an HTML page from the template for each "service" but what is the correct way to click on a service and have it load on the same page? Thank you Jon

Another note, although 'pretty' this sort of site blows the Google PageSpeed test with an epic fail! Thank you Jon @@Jonj1611 You could use javascript for this or AJAX. Since your site has Ipsum it's hard to tell what belongs to what. I count 11 items in the 'Services' sidebar but only 6 in the 'Services Overview' section - and those 'Services Overview' each have a more info link which would suggest to me that there will be a supporting page with more info? If this is the case I would make a page for each rather than trying to java load the content in the same page, purely from a SEO point of view so people looking for 'X' service should get the 'X' service page. That said if a 'service' is more of a bullet point change the layout and make just a list of services like 'Service Overview' and kill the more info links. Edited July 1, 201412 yr by BrowserBugs
July 3, 201412 yr Thanks for the responses @@BrowserBugs @@cibgraphics I guess the reason I asked is that I've been building quite a few static html pages and I'm pleased with how they look, but it doesn't feel 'slick' enough when I click through the site. A new page loads each time and it seems a bit amateur - but is that what the big kids do? I'm wondering how to get things moving from page to page, or show different content, a bit more smoothly. I've looked at a few jQuery transitions, but I suppose they are also bad for speed... Edited July 3, 201412 yr by Shaddow
July 3, 201412 yr Author Thanks Browserbugs and sorry for not replying sooner, I never got an email to say you replied. Yes think I will make a separate page, it might be easier in the long run. I will sit down tomorrow and do a complete review of what services I will be offering and how many pages I need to create. Many thanks for your time.
July 8, 201412 yr I think U should make use of Jquery in your website. It would become difficult for you to arrange and connect these pages in HTML.Go for Jquery and make as many pages as much you want.
July 8, 201412 yr Author Could you point me in the direction of an how to or why jquery would be the best thing to use here?
July 9, 201412 yr Author Thanks, I do know how to use Google, I was talking to the person who made the suggestion to use jquery and there reason for it.
