Hello all!

 

Summer approaches, and this year I've decided to dedicate all of my time to freelancing instead of flipping burgers for minimum wage. I already have a decent client base and already have a few jobs lined up so I'm excited to get into it.

 

Anyways, I've redone my online portfolio from the ground up. Before, I feel like I was trying too hard to sell myself and my services on my website. I don't need that, instead I just need something where I can send interested clients so that they can see my past work and also have a way to contact me.

Also, should I be keeping all of my old work on my portfolio? I'm linking to projects I worked on 3 years ago, and frankly they kind of suck! For this reason i've divided it into "recent work" and "past work" to show my current skill level, but also that I have a decent amount of experience. Should I just completely get rid of those links to old old old jobs?

I do like it, but you might want to spent a little bit more time on the typography.

 

I wouldn't recommend showing your old projects that are not good enough in your eyes and not showing your current qualities.

I agree about the typography, it's a little dull and uninspiring, and I'd recommend adding some colour somewhere, especially with regards to links. I actually scrolled right past your portfolio section because it's text based. I was looking for images or thumbnails but didn't see them.

 

Also, I'd definitely remove the old work, it won't do you any favours having dated site designs in your portfolio as people may not realise it's old work. The number one rule with portfolios is only show your best work.

I think it would help visitors to see screenshots or visual examples of your recent work.

I'd echo a few of the other comments… also feel that it could be a bit brighter

In IE11, there is a bit of overlap between the 1st two paragraphs and the sidebar. I would simply get rid of the sidebar to fix.

Thank you for your feedback! I've brightened it up a bit, added a menu, and threw it onto Wordpress to make it easy for me to update in the future.

I'm really a newcomer to web design so take my comments with a grain of salt. I find your site a bit too simplistic. Some areas look too "empty".

 

Also don't take this one with a grain of salt: That "Lato" font @ font-weight 200 looks atrocious on Chrome (at least on Mac OS)!! Half of your potential customers will see that!!

Looks good to me but on the responsive side I would resize the recent work images to 90% or the like because I can't see anything on mobile and the video at the top, don't run flash players for the video or whatever you're running at the top unless the website is designed only for desktops (which in this day and age is pretty stupid) as iPhone / iPads don't usually run flash (I think they can now though). Also the menu item resize could be made more responsive. Other than that - I love the design on the menu however the content side on the right could be made more relevant to the theme of the menu as I feel it doesn't continue the theme (probably down to the colour scheme and dotted hr's / borders compared to the solid ones in the menu).

A few improvements but otherwise looks great!
