Hello guys,

 

I was doing some work for a small company who carry out some research into renewable energy .. just some general tidy up of their website and was asked to do a company logo for their website. I have come up with the following as a draft. Just wanted to run by this with everyone to check if it reflects a research company that does research into renewable energy.

 

 

Points to note. The pictures are Istock pics copied with the watermarks on them (This is because this is a draft design. I will buy the pics if they go ahead with this design.)

 

Any way I am not graphic designer but learning the art as I go along. Please give pointers on website logo design and what you think of the design in general.

This might seem a dumb question, but which bit is the logo? I'm guessing the pictures aren't part of it, but is the symbol with the ROI part of the it? Or is it just the Dehana Technologies text?

Honestly, it looks like it has been just thrown together. The spacing between the images is different and the text is all over the place.

 

Colour wise, not a bad choice. Although, I would have gone for greens myself as it is a 'renewable' logo (though I understand that the corporate colours may be blue)

 

The ROI image doesn't really work either, it needs to flow more. I would suggest using the same element, and repeating it instead of creating new bits.

The Logo is supposed to be ROI, Dehana Technologies and Get return on investment. I am really designing this as a banner for their web site thats why I have the pictures in between. I might need to create other designs as well to give them option.. Ie separate the pictures.

 

This is just going to be a temporary logo until they get more funding for their projects so I wont really get much money for this .... just doing it for the experience in designing.

I agree with you. the spacing is different... this is because I was experimenting with the glow effect in Photoshop on the letter G but some reason it effected all the text and i had to re-space the pictures unevenly so that the glow did not come into the other pictures. I am also frustrated with photo shop in not having proper alignment tools for different layers when working with text.

 

I might also use your advice on using green... this seems logical for renewable company.

 

 

The ROI -- I used twirl effect... but I am just getting used to photoshop ... I will experiment creating and repeating shapes using the pen tool.

good logo design is the main impression and main factor for the success of the website. all you have to do is spend some time and find out who the target audience is....

 

once you do that......identify what colours to use and how..... then decide is it necessary to use picture anywhere near log....

after considering all these aspects, you shoud design logo

 

the above logo it is very difficult to guess whether is a logo or picture with text...

Just a little thought from me seeing as you're in safe hands with the design aspect.

 

I don't think "Get return on investment" works. It needs an article and a comparative, something like:

 

"Get a higher return on investment"

 

That's to make it work - but I don't think it's a winning strapline but it's probably not your doing anyway!

 

As for the logo - I would consider just incorporating the 'windmill' symbol into the company name, by maybe making the horizontal bar of the T in 'Technologies' one of the blades. I'm no logo designer so it's only an idea to show how you could simplify - but you definitely need to simplify and clearly separate in your mind the actual logo from the strapline and the banner. Then produce a simple logo that works with, but isn't reliant on, or part of the banner.

I will take all that on board and will simplify this design. The only idea the customer put forward was that he wanted "return on investment as a shape of a football, I don't really know what he meant so I just put a lot of ideas into One logo. But I agree with everyone that a logo should be simple and targeted.

 

Key things that I will consider are :

 

Get rid of ROI symbol

Get rid of Pictures.

May be use some green

Use the windmill as a symbol representing the letter "T"
