Decreasing Hard Disc Memory

Featured Replies

Hello Guyz!

I am facing this unusual kind of problem so i am asking for your help. I have windows XP (Home Edition) installed at home with 40 GB hard disc space. But suddenly due to some virus or other problem my hard disc space from all the drive decreasing. I have 4 partitions with size of 10 GB each.

Although i have files of around 4 to 5 GB on each drive but suddenly its showing i have only 600-700 Mb of free space on each drive i havn't installed any new software. I have AVG 8 free version at home but it can't detect any virus or threat. Then i tried Trend Micro Internet Security after searching net for this problem it detected several threats and took appropriate action like quarentine, delete etc but the disc space still didn't increase. If anyone know anything about the problem and Solution please help me out. :o

Having lots of small partitions is an inefficient use of the space. BUT, if you still think that you still have a problem then Google "Treesize Free" and install it.

It's stupidly useful for finding out exactly where all your space is being taken up on a disc. Just right click and run it and it'll show you how big each folder is etc.

You could also try installing and running CCleaner. It will analyze your hd for things like temporary internet files and other crap you dont need and then delete them for you.

Its not temporary files or anyother huge file i ahve searched and checked all its some particular kind of virus which AVG is unable to detect.

Anywayz thanx for ur suggestion.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then try Nod32, it's far better than AVG.

And in return to that I'd say try Avira Antivirus.

This is by far one of the best AV products, with not only a high detection rate, but low number of false positives and higher throughput than most.

That link should take you to the free antivirus program. There are no gimmicks - most antivirus companies have their basic AV free of charge.

what i have found free AV is not the best way to go if you have delicate work. They don't detect viruses as quick and their hit rate is low. Might want to get a better AV software. Also if they viruses have completedly crippled the HD you may be loking at a format. Otherwise a clean and defrag may do the trick.
