hi, i have been asked whether I could create a site for a car/van hire company, now i am not familiar with designing online forms and also the whole payments stuff, so don't want to commit to a site i can't deliver. can someone point me in the right direction for what i would need to do.

 

basically the guy wants to be able for a customer to say what vehicle they want, duration, dates etc and also to pay online and the rental company receive the details plus the cash in their account - help appreciated

You will have to use some sort of 3rd party merchant for this. PayPal is the most common solution but if your client will be making any decent money from the site it will cost him a fortune in fees. I advise you to go and have a look at protx (http://www.protx.com/) to see how their merchant tool works. You will also have to go through their different payment plans to decide which one is best for your client.

 

There are also other merchants such as worldpay but protx has been the best for us. There is also google checkout which I haven't tested myself yet.
