Cannot access editor **Urgent**

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I am in the process of working on a client's website and I cannot access the editor mode. I need to access this urgently but can't work out why it would not work.

Any help would be appreciated

Are you using a CMS? If you're editing a live site, you'll need to ensure you have the correct credentials e.g. - if using something like WordPress you're logged in as an admin rather than a collaborator. Best practice would be to edit offline in a text editor then upload via FTP if you have the access, in my opinion.

Yeah that's what I like to do and I always say the same to them but the client wouldnt give me FTP access. It was within the profile settings so thank you.... you are a lifesaver.

The designer of the website had hidden code in page and when I deleted a shortcode in visual it deleted the lot! I have now put the code back in... I personally would have put all that in a page template rather than hide it... too easy to delete without realising!!

Thanks again :-)

Glad you could sort it out :) I appreciate people being protective over their FTP users but when you're building a site, it's kind of necessary. I have a client that has reared their head where we have to go through 3 different parties to get access to the FTP credentials. When we get them, it's only for 7 days (which is enough initially but always need to do something at a later date). Best part of all, client considers it's my fault for delays...
