I'm having an MMORPG (text based) designed for me, and have come up with the following as a preliminary design:

I wouldn't render at least the main heading with the same font as the logo, but otherwise, it's neat!

 

Edit: not really a big fan of super-patterned backgrounds, either, but that's a taste issue.

Yeah why is it so grainy?

 

Not sure on the rounded corners, a little modern for 'legion' wars?

Hehe, that's a fair enough point. I thought it looked cool, although perhaps a better background is needed.

 

Maybe so. It's just me, although I'm not sure of having it with straight lines, although it does seem out-keeping of the time period.

Well couple things about your design.

 

- Looking at the roman helm i'm guessing your mmorpg is going to have roman empire theme. This is a great oppertunity to add tons of unique design features. Beside the helmet thingy your website looks very generic.

- The gradients in the text field are a bit much, might wanna tone em down a bit.

- Round corners don't seem to fit with the whole roman theme.

- Might wanna experiment with different color schemes. blue is a bit of cold color for a generally more warm roman theme.

It'd be PHP/MySQL As I say, it'll be a text-based RPG.

1) That's a nice point thanks; I'll try and make various parts of the design more Roman-esque.

2) In the "Welcome", "Login" and "Game Stats" areas?

3) Yep, maybe it doesn't fit in with the Roman time period. However at the moment I'm struggling to visualise this with straight edges.

4) Good point thanks; maybe red would be more in-keeping with the Roman theme

Sorry for my ignorance, although which part of it is Papyrus-like?

Sorry I should have been clear, I meant the "Papyrus" typeface. It's just as bad, if not worse, than Comic Sans

No problem at all, thanks for the links

 

I'd only be using the Papyrus typeface for the headings, the rest of it would be in Tahoma (despite my image). I know not to use a non-main stream font for the actual body typeface.

Ok thats good. Could you perhaps use a different font for the logo though so it seems more original (or do you like it that way?)

Yep! As for the logo, to be honest I do think that Papyrus suits here mainly because it is designed to be a Roman-esque font (unlike when it's used on cereal boxes etc!)

Fair enough. Just for your interest there are some other roman-esque fonts here
