hi everyone im still kinda new to web design but built a site for a friend.

 

its all been done on dreamweaver using bootstrap. i have to update things at least monthly on it.

 

what im wondering is can i do this through a cms without changing the code and uploading every month?

 

if i can which would be the best to use? ive looked at wordpress and drupal but not much. so i dont how to transfer what i have to it.

 

or would i be better really learning php etc to create my own cms for the site?

If you have a bunch of files which end with .htm or .html I'm not sure if there's a way to import those directly into a CMS without enclosing them in a wrapper or doing it manually. Or rather if there is I don't know how.

 

Once upon a time dealing with raw html files was really all there was but these days CMS make life so much easier both for the client who now has a password and username protected portal through which he or she can update their website as well as the designer, who can quickly teach even a complete novice how to update a joomla or wordpress site in an hour or two.

 

If you intend to have any sort of ecommerce functionality then Joomla may well be your best choice (or at least one of them) but for a website which builds its reputation on great content and lots of it you will struggle to find anything easier to use and maintain than wordpress.

Easy! Use a very basic CMS such as cushycms. All you need to do is wrap the content you want edited within tags, and to change it just log onto the cushy site, select your page, type, save, voila.

 

Alternatively, a rebuild into one of the heftier cms's.

is it possible to move a full site into wordpress exactly as it is?

I have been looking for the same. Still searching. You just cant put html into a wordpress template. The template needs to be chopped into different parts. Thats what I have been reading lately. Different sections/parts like header, sidebars, footer etc depending on the complexity of your design.
