February 1, 201313 yr Hi I have just started in website design in the last few months and have done small-scale projects as in one or two webpages but this is my first major project and this is for a virtual trucking company on truck simulator games. The website in question is: http://www.jwt-group.co.uk Please note: the website is not completely finished yet but quite a few parts of it are finished however before i totally finish it i want to make sure that i have gotten the design and layout etc. all correct. Thank You
February 1, 201313 yr Hello, I've been developing websites for more than 10 years, I'll gladly give you some feedback. Your using a CDN - good Its clear what the site is about; although you could make the sites products and services on offer clearer to understand Page background is classy Social links are there Pages load quickly Good range of content Menu is easy to understand Page central white body area remains in center so on smaller width devices they will still be able to see the main content without scrolling from left to right all the time. Improve: Have a look at google pagespeed service and follow the recommendations there Beware red text used in page body: http://www.toledo-bend.com/colorblind/CBwebsites.asp The feathered edges on the images top left and right would probably be better if it was a clean edge instead or much much subtler Like the feathering - your use of image effects is too great, drop shadows too pronounced etc. These things work best when used subtly (almost always) Consider setting the video not to auto play - its quite irritating - similar to sites that start playing music on page load.. Try to avoid bullet point lists like that on the home page, its not as readable as nice paragraphed text. Have a look at 960 grid system to ensure all layout, borders, and alignment of boxes is uniform: http://960.gs/ Consider using a google map embedded instead of an image Consider showing highlighting the page the user is on in the menu to show them where they are on the site. Add sitemap.xml Add friendly error pages like 404 page not found I hope this helps, good luck!
February 1, 201313 yr I'll give more detailed feedback when I can.... Quick note, your embedded youtube video plays automatically when the web page loads up....this is a pet hate of mine...and for alot of people. If you learn some basic html5 you will have no need to use a youtube video. Stevo
February 3, 201313 yr I agree with what everyone else has said, but I'd add a few of my own. the header needs work, especially the logo. If there is a budget for it, I'd hire a pro logo designer for this as a good logo really helps set the page off. You have some blue underlined text on the page. when I see this I think "link, i can click on that" and then nothing happens.
February 3, 201313 yr ditto the logo, and only underline text if it's a link ) (resize the logo you have properly in a graphics application - it takes longer to load and looks crap when you have to rezise it using html i like the background red and blue text for main copy is awful - use #333 and stick to red e.g. for headings and blue for links too many vertical and horiztonal lines line height is a touch generous for the measure (number of characters/words)
February 3, 201313 yr Hi Thank you for everybody for taking the time to review my page and give me some feedback i have taken on board what you have all said and have made some changes to my website but i have many more changes planned just need the time to do them. But please have a look at my website again and see the changes i have made and give me feedback on whether they are good changes or not. And of course any other improvements that you think i could make to my website. Thank You Edited February 3, 201313 yr by danbywinby
February 3, 201313 yr Better! tone down the red on the main menu rollover, make the glow around the same menu subtler, and I'm not keen on the rounded ends on the menu. But going in the right direction.
February 5, 201313 yr Hi I have made more changes to the home page and i think it looks a lot better and if you all think it looks great then i will start copying that theme and colour scheme on to the other pages in the website. But if you still think there are improvements that i can make or things that i should change then please let me know. Thank You
February 5, 201313 yr I'm not going to recover the old ground again, you know what I think about the logo area, but the other thing that leaps out at me is the video part. Its great that it doesn't autostart, but that big blank white space looks odd. Is there a way to say show the first frame of the vid without it playing?
