Hi. I've only used iWeb before and I'm looking to buy something that offers slightly more options for my new web site which I hope to build myself, but I still need it to be very user friendly.

 

The most important thing that I want to achieve is to have a sidebar that stays in the same place all the time which will contain a jukebox style music player, like Soundcloud. I want this sidebar to always remain in the same place regardless of what else is being browsed on the site.

 

I've tried a few demos, Sandvox and Freeway and so far it seems this is not possible with them, but maybe I'm missing something.

 

Can anyone recommend some beginner web design software that has this function.

Yeah, thats kind of close to what I had in mind with the vertical navigation staying constant, so long as I could embed a Soundcloud widget into it. The 'all content on one page' idea is something I hadn't thought of and is quite cool but if the site grows bigger there could be a lot of whizzing up and down the page going on and hence it might be better to be able to switch between pages.

 

I think I've still got a lot of research to do.

u can use it even if u have different pages for different contents just don't use the jquery scroll .....

First thing I'll ask you is do you see your future in this line of work?

 

if the answer is yes quickly forget all these "drag and drop" software, it creates unclean code and the main problem with it is that it won't teach you anything usefull, I'd suggest maybe slowly learning your way around HTML and CSS by creating a few basic layouts for static websites at first and reading about colour theory.

 

in webdev there is no easy way out, sadly.

Yeah that was what i was going to say as i used notepad++, it is all coding for me

 

Easy enough to drag & drop as you say, but understanding the actual code is a different thing. To be honest it ain't that hard to learn some basic HTML and CSS. I taught a friend some HTML and CSS that never ever done it in his life, took him about 1 week to get grasp of it.
