July 23, 201214 yr I am currently working on a project for a client who is hosting at the moment with eclipse.net.uk.. She had a basic html web site hosted with eclipse. Since (for I dont know what reason and to be honest I don’t care at the moment , they don’t provide php hosting) I advised her to get proper hosting. They were hosting her domain name as well ( turnaroundwear.com).We got really good deal for hosting from ipage.com . Everything was going on well until we had to transfer the domain from eclipse to ipage. On Friday I filled a form for domain transfer in eclipse control panel and the order was received successfully. And here the problems began. Usually when I do domain transfers the thing is quite straight forward .. get the AUTH code , ask the support to unlock the domain, give the code to the support of the new hosting and just wait for the DNS to be updated. After I send the form for the domain transfer , about 4 pm on Friday ( at the moment is 6 pm on Monday ) I started waiting to receive any information from eclipse.. ex. Hi there, your domain is unlocked and you can proceed with the transfer.. or something like that.. Yeah.. in my dreams.. Full story - http://vladinc.co.uk/?p=165 P.S. Sorry if I am breaking any rules but its quite long story and there is quite few screenshots to see.. If its in the wrong place, please move it.. but I really think that people should know what kind of company are these..
July 23, 201214 yr I've got one word for you".. Patience. You submitted a change on a Friday night and expected it to done over night? Then you went in guns blazing. If it'd been me that had received those emails I'd have put your request on the bottom of the pile and ignored your emails for a couple of days. Yes they're taking a bit longer than normal but you should still treat others how you'd want to be treated, especially when you're waiting on them to do something for you.

The client is paying for service .. so if I / He wants something done and he is paying for it .. it should be done.. Their support working hours are : Mon to Fri - 0800 to 2000 Saturday - 0900 to 1700 So they had enough time to start it and to say something like .. your domain unlocking process has been started .. and blah blah .. or something like that.. just to give some info.. after all this is my/my client property and how you will feel if someone is doing something with your stuff and you want to know what he is doing and how he is getting on.. and he is just not letting you know... I wouldnt like it .. you might be different The domain is your internet name and presence.. and its important.. so please excuse me if I have been a bit over demanding.. but I am trying to protect my clients property and name He has been on my head all the time asking me what is going on .. why is not done.. whats happening.. what I am supposed to tell him.. Ahh.. just a messy story
July 23, 201214 yr Tell your client the truth, there's little you can do to hurry up the hosting company, unfortunately.
July 23, 201214 yr Sounds like a ****ty client! It's not up to whether they get it or not, you're the hired professional, it's you who explains why things take the time they do. If the client can't accept that from you then you need to have a word with them about your role in the job. The client isn't always right.

Reminds me of something that happened to me in my previous career. I was basically a logistics / engineer for a VVIP aviation company, think of a shop in london in knightsbridge with big green awnings, that was who I worked for. It was a friday afternoon and a air craft was waiting in luton airport for a part, unfortunatly the part was stuck in traffic on the M25. I phoned the client, explained this and he actually said to me "What are you going to do about it?". He seriously wanted me to sort out a traffic jam on a motorway....
July 23, 201214 yr Oh a certain London shop with green awnings that i to used to work for Let's face it, the clientèle of said shop were never going to be the most polite now where they? haha
