New website

Featured Replies

Hi, I am currently finishing up this new website for the band The Sainte Catherines

the site was designed to match the colors of their new dvd.

I'd love to get some feedback.

thanks

Nice website, it has a art style feel to it, makes it really personal.

couple of things i noticed.

- Your header is really big :p on small resolutions you probably don't 1 line of text until you start scrolling

- Your menu / header / background graphics are at a fixed position and your content / footer is not.

- the gray on the upcoming show is a bit light and hard to read.

Your site validates so thats good. couple of tweaks and i think it's good to go.

Thanks for the feedback, I darkened the text lightly in the right col. I think it looks a lot better.

Hi Pab

It is very nice. I like it. I did not try such combination schedules. It is necessary to know when to stop, but at you it has well turned out. ^_^

Visually this is a great design - I love it, it has tonnes of personality. From a useability point of view, I have a couple of suggestions:

The header is huge and I have to scroll to see any content at all. On your home page some of the background illustrations make the black text on top unreadable. Also, I have a horizontal scroll bar on my screen :(

Other than that, it's a beautiful site :)

I like it, congrats on the design.

This

#decoration_bar1 {
	position:absolute;
	top:500px;
	left:495px;
}

is what's causing the horizontal scrollbar @ 1024x768 (@ my 1440 x 990 everything is ok)

left:495 + 600 px this png (http://www3.sympatico.ca/nguennaoui/images/hr_big.png).

Thank you very much Mihai, I adjusted the image, the scroll bar is gone.

thank you all for the feedback and suggestions. I really appreciate it.

Oh, thank f*** for that. A website with some personality. Seriously, I was at that stage where I thought if I saw one more f***ing site with f***ing reflections, I would end up f***ing killing someone :)

I like it. Two niggles, and a suggestion coming up. The first niggle is the 'n' in 'sainte' - I'm not sure it's that clear.. it kinda looks partway between a 'h' and an 'm'. Nothing major, maybe just a slight adjustment of the left side. Second niggle is the menu.. The pastel triangles have a bit of an 80s thing going on, which doesn't quite fit the rest of the page style. The suggestion would be to try adding a bit of colour. I like the black and white, but I've also got a feeling that colour could also add something to it. Something about the style reminds me a bit of Gaudi.. I think because of the kind of playful freeform style he used. He often used a lot of colour which heightened the effect. Some pics:

The colours look a bit washed out in some of those, but you can kinda imagine how they would have looked originally.

Anyway, s'nice work :)

Welcome to my world! If I read one more (add you own asterisks - I'm too polite!) site that offers 'solutions' and 'stands out from the crowd' and waffles and drones and drivels on without saying anything. You think design templates are bad? I want to know where the bland impersonal corporate writing template came from!

I love the site, not just for the grungy design but for the grungy copy that fits it beautifully.

THIS WILL SHOCK THOSE OF YOU WHO 'KNOW' ME...

I spotted some minor errors in the copy (nothing that would confuse readers and nothing too bad) that I would advise be LEFT IN! They add to the honest, down to earth, grungy feeling and someone who cares about music more than anything else. It feels like a muso talking directly to a fan.

Great site.

This is a really nice website, bursting with personality.

The header is a little bit big, but I'm not sure I'd change anything other than the huge amount of white space around the navigation.

The navigation is lacking something, but my biggest bug-bare with it is that it has the flicker problem. When you hover over the links the first time the whole thing disappears before the hover image loads. Try using a sliding navigation effect instead:

Not much to say - other than, great site! I love it. A really good example of the artist using the method rather than the method using the artist.

thank you all very much for the feedbacks.

ill be doing the sprites in the coming week.

also did a couple of tweeks to the layout,

and I still a have to do minor work on some background stuff .

thanks for the Gaudi link, his stuff is great, definitely inspiring. i'll definitely look more into him.

the site is now online at www.thesaintecatherines.org

once again, i really appreciate all the feedback

Get a cheap flight to Barcelona - it's a great city. You really do have to see Parc Guell, Casa Batilla, Casa Mila, La Sagrada Familia to appreciate how amazing his work is in 'full-scale'.

I'll try to find my photo of the snowman I built on the roof of Casa Mila!!!

I plan on visiting Europe again next year, I'll definitely try to catch some of those sites.

cheers

What a fantastic website !

I really think it would benefit from a lighter colour being behind the content though ? Would certainly attract more of the attention to your copy.

Brilliant site, I hope the band are happy !

Howdy :)

Im new here.. but.. here is what I think Generally website is awesome REALLY ;) hand crafted.. it looks pretty amazing BUT as someone said the toplogo is slightly to big menu could be a little bit smaller also.. just an idea adding more... "paper look" for main body / wrapper or however you call it and menu.. and for background cartoon as it is ?

So we will see a bigger difrence where is background where is place for content and. if content will be on something lighter it would be more easier to read:)

you draw most of those things by hand and scanned?:p

Best Wishes
