Hi All,

 

In Fireworks when you create and object or text etc... and you want it to centre it will automatically snap to the canvas when you drag it.

 

Can you get Illustrator to do this?

In Illustrator, select your object.

Open the Align panel (window>align or shift-f7)

At the bottom right of the Align panel you have a button saying "Align To:", click that and select "Align to Artboard".

Then hit the "Horizontal Align Center" and then "Vertical Align Center" buttons.

 

If what you're referring to is Smart Guides, you can find that View Menu or use Ctrl+U.
