Review my First Website

This is the first webpage I've ever made in Fireworks. I feel good about this as my first page though. I like the colors they seem happy and motivating.

To be honest, it's not an improvement on the existing onlinedegree.com - the grid is weak, the gradients and shadows are a bit overdone and it lacks basic attention to typography.

Thanks Renaissance - But I love gradients!!!

Could you explain in a little more detail what you mean by a few things.

"the grid is weak"

"shadows overdone" (I did not put any effort into shadows, if they were there they were just in some of the canned common library resources)

"lacks basic attention to typography" - What are the basics for giving attention to typography? As you can see, I just typed stuff in as a normal font and did nothing else.

JackLUFC,

I'm glad you think it's out of a beginners skill level. I really like doing this even though it's not my real job. My real job is to run sites (I'm an SEO). But my recent tasks lately have put me on to fireworks and trying to get some things remade/give a designer ideas for redesigning. I've been screwing around with tutorials on youtube all week. I love it though, these mockups are fun.

Thanks Renaissance - But I love gradients!!!

Grid - see attached.

Shadow - mainly the large box at the bottom - it has a grey outer glow that looks like a clumsily-executed shadow.

Typography - leading/line-height, typographic scale of body copy and headings, vertical rhythm. Input fields in the form aren't particularly well padded and the centred labels above them would be better left-aligned.
