How was my basic design. It's just for basic.

Personally, i would make the left hand side navigation a little more... Interesting?

 

Perhaps groups them and use a flyout for them etc?

 

Also i know its just a design, but try and use the whole width, not sure what you have designed the width as but go atleast 960px giving you more room to play with.

Why try to use 960px? What if there's not enough content to comfortably fill such a wide space? The width of your page should be calculated according to the size of your grid and the optimum line-length for readability (usually within the range of 45-75 characters.) Just because a container width is popular, doesn't make it right for any site.

Without content there is no design. Post something when you have all the content in there (or lorem ipsum if you absolutely must).

Search for Lorem lipsum, and get som content in there..

Also add pictures and links, even video..

Then It will look more like a design

 

Also consider the colors.. try to use a online color website..

I would like to critique it, but just like Porkchops mentioned, without content there is no design. Your design should feed off the content of the site and they should complement each other. Get something up there and then show us, I’m sure we will be able to help you more that way.
