I'm a business adviser and I have a client who has a massage website. She has written a lot of articles about how massage can help various problems. What is the most effective way to use these articles to generate traffic to her website.

The least you should do is post them on her company's website. Google loves content (and so do visitors)!

 

You can also consider syndicating the content on a site like RealSelf.com, which posts articles, blogs and Q&A from health and beauty professionals, or submit them to article directories (watch out for bad, spammy sites).

Is it worth locating problems on forums e.g. insomnia and putting a link to an article on how massage can help insomnia or is this spammy? I can't quite work out what you're asking. Are you talking about submitting the Word doc to another site? Because that's not generally how article submissions are done (although the effect is the same - yes, her link appears at the bottom of an article posted on a third-party site).

 

For her own site, create an "Articles" or "Resources" section and put everything in there.

That's spammy.

 

Instead, try to get her involved in other sites related to her business (like the link I suggested but there are tons of others). She will get free exposure to a much larger audience and they will include her contact details, web address, etc. in their credits to her (any good site should do this).

 

If she contributes to forums she can use her web address in her signature line, like many people on this forum do. That's passive promotion and not nearly as spammy as: "Hey, I can help you Mr. Poster. Please visit my site to find out how!" Those posts would likely get deleted.

Also, reading between the lines are these articles as web pages or as word documents for download? Make sure they are pages...

From the information I have been reading for some time is that giving something to people is good for seo.. It adds value to your site and search engines, ie google, should ( fingers crossed ), increase your page ranking accordingly..

Thanks - That has been very helpful. She is from Sunderland Expat629 so you have been helping a local lass. I'm trying to get her to write her own blog, but she is blind and although she can use a computer with speech software, she is not have the extra time it would take to learn to operate it. The idea of the articles was to plan for the future when she did have the time to learn or had an employee to do it for her. She would then have a bank of articles to get the blog started.

First things first you need to get all article content indexed on your website first (which it sounds like you have achieved) this applies to any future articles too. If you do this 99% of the time se's will see your site as the original.

Next you have to distribute the articles with either content links (keyword anchor text) or author bio links. Alternatively think about direst rss feeds from your site.

 

To distribute the article go to article sites and submit, pay an article submission company or use a semi automatic tool such as Digixmas
