Facebook chat...

Featured Replies

Suddenly facebook has a chat feature!

How weird! What do you guys think of it?

They are totally trying to take over from Google!

Another thing for those addicted to facebook to be addicted too :p

As I am one of the rare people who don't have an account and haven't even been to the site it doesn't mean anything to me...did google used to have a chat feature, how did I miss that?

Gmail has a chat feature, so if someone on your contact list is online you can chat to them.

There is also GTalk of course, but rather it's Gmail that facebook is competing with.

I deleted my facebook account. I found it so annoying! All those emails... Why can't folks just email me themselves, instead of getting Facebook to do it for them? Grrr.... Pesky corporate snakes

I couldn't survive without my facebook account! Uni life kind of revolves around it! Cheaper than texting!

However, I now have two Facebook chat convos open and my facebook tab is flashing at me that I have a new message. This is going to be irritating!

... Horrifically. Argh! I've been online for 2.5 hours and done nothing!

I'm really glad to see that other people have deleted their Facebook accounts, not just me!

I coudn't stand the constant demand to add applications, take part in some crappy quiz and then have to invite 20 friends just so you can see your quiz result which you weren't bothered about anyway.

My wife (ElanGirl) is completely obsessed with the whole Facebook thing and it drives me crazy!!!

I know the feeling, my boss was looking for a sales person for the publishing side of the company and the first thing he did when he got a CV was check facebook to see if they had a profile  Personally I have never seen the need to have an account and am addicted enough to this place that I just wouldn't have the time to have a life if I got a new online addiction :p

First of all: I've been excited about the new Facebook Chat feature ever since they released it for the US a few weeks back, not because I'm a Facebook addict, but because it's a great feature and it's really setting FB apart from the likes of MySpace. Now I just need to find somebody who wants to try it out with me! :o

Secondly: I don't understand why people get so worried about employers stalking them on Facebook. If you don't accept any random friend requests and make your profile for friends only, then they can only get a tiny photo, your name and your network.

I don't use facebook as much as I use WDF!

The main thing I use it for is the messaging system, its a great way to keep in touch with friends, as you can effectively have multiway email that doesn't get messed up as soon as someone forgets to hit "reply to all" instead of reply.

Then all Uni events/parties/invites come through facebook so thats the other thing!

And my profile is private, so no worries :)

Rob isn't online :p

…neither are you! *poke*

You can turn off all that sh*t you know - and prevent FB from sending you notifications. I find it very handy - use it to stay in touch with extended friend network, old mates and so on - plus it's a lot easier to notify everyone when a party's in the offing. I've thought about leaving, since I don't use it very often anymore, but it's still quite handy - and generally not as ugly as Myspace (and not owned by Murdoch). I do have misgivings on the more Big Brother type elements of it though, but I keep my personal info to a minimum for that reason.

I think my problem was I just didn't have enough friends to make it worthwhile :cray:

ohh you make me want to cry now :cray: ...but..but ...at least you have friends here :p

Anyone used it yet?

Is it any good?

Can't be ars*d to load facebook up to check!

Thank you Dizi, you have filled the empty vacuum of my heart :D

Awww lol Elanman!

It is kinda good and kinda annoying lol.

I think she's trying to say (in a lady-ish way) that it's addictive :p

I kept getting "cannot connect" so wasn't overly impressed this morning, but it seems to be working - although no-one wants to talk to me! :(

so what does facebook have that other social network sites are lacking...other than chat :p

It's actually useful for staying it touch with friends from various places. MySpace and the likes are more for mass promotion of bands and to have a personal "profile" that that can put themes and crap all over, rather than staying in touch.

I particularly like the way Facebook concentrates on tagging in their photo and video application — I'm yet to see MySpace add a feature like that. It's great because you can organise photos into events and all your friends get photos tagged with them automatically added to their profile.

You have something pretty similar on Bebo, which I've been using for aaaages now.

Never got into Bebo, the only other social networking site I like is Virb because it is really modern and clean — they give you total freedom when customising your profiles (with the HTML and CSS!) unlike MySpace in which you have to really hack away at their tables to get anywhere decent.
