Website Form To Email

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone, I am having some problems sending my web html form to my email when the submit button is pressed.

This is the basic code i have been using. I am not sure whether it requires anything special from my server or whether there is a way to do this with just html...

-------------------------------------------

<FORM METHOD="POST" ACTION="http://www.griffindesign.net.au"'>http://www.griffindesign.net.au" >

<INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="wwwto" VALUE="rachellegriffin@people.net.au" >

<INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="wwwfrom" VALUE="rachellegriffin@people.net.au">

<INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="wwwgoto" VALUE="http://www.griffindesign.net.au" >

<P>Your name:<INPUT NAME="name" TYPE="text" SIZE="46" >

<P>Your e-mail address: <INPUT NAME="email" TYPE="text" SIZE="39" >

<P>Your telephone number: <INPUT NAME="phone" TYPE="text" SIZE="39" >

<P>Comments:<TEXTAREA NAME="comments" ROWS="6" COLS="73" wrap=physical>

</TEXTAREA>

<P>

<INPUT TYPE="submit" VALUE="Submit" ><INPUT TYPE="reset" VALUE="Reset" >

</FORM>

----------------------------------------

I couldnt get that to work so I contacted my hosting people and they said that

"We have a component that allows you to do that." and directed me to their user manual pg 9 which stated:

MANUAL FROM HOST :

"

WebForm

This set of components allows you to make any HTML form you wish, and have it's results emailed to

you when the user submits it.

The example below shows how to use it.

All tags are required.

A hidden URL parameter called "sub" is required.

Example:

------------------------------------

[*WebForm*]

[*WebFormInput*]

<form method="post">

<input type="hidden" name="sub" value="1">

<table>

<tr valign="top"><td>Your name: </td><td><input name="from"></td></tr>

<tr valign="top"><td>Email address: </td><td><input name="email"></td></tr>

<tr valign="top"><td>Message:</td><td><TEXTAREA

NAME="message"</textarea></td></tr>

<tr valign="top">

<td> </td>

<td><input type="submit" value="submit" columns=50></td>

</tr>

</table>

</form>

[*/WebFormInput*]

[*WebFormSubmitted*]

<li>Thanks for entering your message!

[*/WebFormSubmitted*]

-----------------------------

Parameters:

None.

Does anyone understand how the above code works which my web server provided me with?

Basically i want the information within the form to be sent to my email address; rachellegriffin@people.net.au

I would really appreciate any feedback..am i missing something?

Thanks a lot in advance!! I have been working on this all day! :(

Hi rlgriffo..

From the HTML Code you have posted that just looks like the code for the form page and doesn't have any actual back end function to it?

You need to have some sort of Server side code (PHP, ASP, ASP etc) to do the job of processing the information supplied by the front end form.

I am not very good a producing the back end code for the forms, but a brilliant little website will do that all for you! Find it HERE!

For Submiting a form you need a serverside code as mentioned previously by Rob7865..

So please confirm which scripting language you will use, or what kind of Server you are using.

As others have said you need server side code to do the email sending. HTML just sends the data to the server, something on the server then has to know what to do with it.

It sounds like your hosts have the server side set up, normally this is done by telling you what to specify as the action="" - as this tells the server what needs the info. However your hosts are saying just to include an input like

<input type="hidden" name="sub" value="1">

So your form should work like this:

<FORM METHOD="POST" ACTION="http://www.griffindesign.net.au" >
<input type="hidden" name="sub" value="1">
<INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="wwwto" VALUE="rachellegriffin@people.net.au" >
<INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="wwwfrom" VALUE="rachellegriffin@people.net.au">
<INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="wwwgoto" VALUE="http://www.griffindesign.net.au" >
<P>Your name:<INPUT NAME="name" TYPE="text" SIZE="46" >
<P>Your e-mail address: <INPUT NAME="email" TYPE="text" SIZE="39" >
<P>Your telephone number: <INPUT NAME="phone" TYPE="text" SIZE="39" >
<P>Comments:<TEXTAREA NAME="comments" ROWS="6" COLS="73" wrap=physical>
</TEXTAREA>
<P>
<INPUT TYPE="submit" VALUE="Submit" ><INPUT TYPE="reset" VALUE="Reset" >
</FORM>

think you may also need to modify your form a bit so that you have the from field (from's name) and email (from's email)

If this doesnt work then I have no idea what your host is on about and I suggest you look at one of the other solutions posted here!

Hi everyone, Thank you so much for your answers so far. I have tried a PHP form but when submitted it just kept displaying the php code ?! I researched and found that one of the possible reasons for it doing this is because php was not supported by my server.

Anyway i still couldnt get it to work even after following the instructions here...so i emailed him again (the guy who created the server side thingo) and this is what happened...

BTW i still cant get it working, but i thought that someone else here might have an idea with this extra info. The problem is, with his response, i cant see how the script is telling it to send it to my email address...should there not be a line or two telling it to?

Hi,

I have been trying to get a contact form sending responses to my email. I am having problems... initially i was using (trying to use) php and every time i pressed submit it would just show me to the php code i was using rather than running it.

I asked Max if my hosting supports php ...and he said that you have a component already to do this with... (in email below).

From the instructions I gathered that you already have the server side taken care of (so i don't need to tell it what to do with a php file) and all I need to include is <input type="hidden" name="sub" value="1"> into the top of my form's code...I still cant get it working.

Do i need to have my own php file to talk to the server? Or is there something else im missing?

<FORM METHOD="POST" ACTION="http://www.griffindesign.net.au"'>http://www.griffindesign.net.au" >

<input type="hidden" name="sub" value="1">

<INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="to" VALUE="rachellegriffin@people.net.au" >

<INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="from" VALUE="rachellegriffin@people.net.au">

<INPUT TYPE="hidden" NAME="goto" VALUE="http://www.griffindesign.net.au" >

<P>Your name:<INPUT NAME="name" TYPE="text" SIZE="46" >

<P>Your e-mail address: <INPUT NAME="email" TYPE="text" SIZE="39" >

<P>Your telephone number: <INPUT NAME="phone" TYPE="text" SIZE="39" >

<P>Comments:<TEXTAREA NAME="comments" ROWS="6" COLS="73" wrap=physical>

</TEXTAREA>

<P>

<INPUT TYPE="submit" VALUE="Submit" ><INPUT TYPE="reset" VALUE="Reset" >

</FORM>

I would really appreciate any help you could offer.

Thank you,

RESPONSE

Hi

Close, you just need to add the tags (eg: [* WebForm *]) to tell the hosting system to handle the form. The form and the "thankyou page" all go into the same file, which you wouldn't necessarily do if you were using PHP. The system already knows your email address, so there's no need to add that as a parameter.

Try the following:

[*WebForm*]

[*WebFormInput*]

<h1>This is your form</h1>

<FORM METHOD="POST">

<P>Your name:<INPUT NAME="name" TYPE="text" SIZE="46" >

<P>Your e-mail address: <INPUT NAME="email" TYPE="text" SIZE="39" >

<P>Your telephone number: <INPUT NAME="phone" TYPE="text" SIZE="39" >

<P>Comments:<TEXTAREA NAME="comments" ROWS="6" COLS="73" wrap=physical>

</TEXTAREA>

<P>

<INPUT TYPE="submit" VALUE="Submit" ><INPUT TYPE="reset" VALUE="Reset" >

</FORM>

[*/WebFormInput*]

[*WebFormSubmitted*]

<h1>Message Sent</h1>

<li>This section is shown as a response to the user

[*/WebFormSubmitted*]

Regards,

Again I really really appreciate your help so far and any more ideas you could give me, thank you so much!!

He is telling you to copy and paste what he has written?

I don't understand those tags or how they are valid, but that is what he is saying.
