Hackers Exploit Poor Website Code

Featured Replies

There is an article on the BBC Technology website titled Hackers exploit poor website code

How many of you consider website security when you design your site?

Can anyone recommend any guidelines/reading material that covers the subject?

hmm thats interesting.. i noticed in the stats of my website that people seem to be trying to test my site for vulnerable code and get my files. when i look in my 404 can not be displayed list its all like "get file + my adress" all that stuff, and when i follow some of the links back from the visited from list it takes me to all these websites that test for vulnerablities not sure what they are trying to do but it seems like they are unsuccessful.

It's something I have been looking into recently. On the bright side, at least people when they see this may now pay that extra and go for a professional web designer who has standards for accessibility, security etc, rather than trying to get it done on the cheap.

this seems to put the blame mostly on amateur/inexperienced coders - mostly people who don't even know what/how XSS works.

Simple rule: encode all entity characters from user input (eg < becomes < )
