Webdesign Outsourcing :o)

Featured Replies

Hi everybody,

Generally, i want to ask you about outsourcing webdesign and webpages : o) Im from Czech Republic (on the right side from germany). And im looking for differencies between prices in another countries. I think, in UK is generally harder to pay labour force than in other countries in EU. For example i saw many webpages (simple to do) on internet which costed between 500-1000 Dollars. Can anyone specify costs for some kind of webpages and webdesign? For example what are costs and profitabillity if you want to build simple static page - page with RS (articles) - eshop ? or single originall webdesign? Thank you a lot .-)

My second question is about PPC and Affiliate earnings pages...how long is recovery of investment if you want to buy some "passive" earning page? One year, half year, more?

One more thank you for response and wish nice day : o)

Hi,

Welcome to the forums!

In answer to your first question it varies. Web designer in employment tend to work for anything between £14000 - £26000 per year. Generally between £18000 - 24000 would be the norm.

Freelancing is a different matter, and can vary widely.

Some part timers with an interest in web design might do you a site for £100. There are a few of those around. Basically, they use a template - put your logo in and post the site online to your domain name with your text in it.

A guy near me charges £40 per hour - and his design isn't as good as mine. I'm stuggling to get £10-£15 an hour for my work on web design. This is ironic considering I was charging £55 per hour for e-learning work in flash 4 months ago...

Happy hunting

Paul.

Really I think it depends on the job...I mean you can't say all static sites will be £500 because some could be 2 pages while others are 50 pages.

So this is quite a hard question to answer. I could go on about hourly rates but again that is the designers choice some charge 2p and hout while others could charge £70. It is such a wide market and it just depends on skill and if you can get away with charging that much.

I looked on UK website design sites about a year or so ago, and it's generally £350 for a 5-page basic static website without any CMS. Then again, freelancers usually go by an hourly rate which makes it impossible to say.

E-commerce goes into the thousands.

Hi Raiden!

I'm not too sure what the average quote is but I do know that our company, which is situated in south africa, got quoted for a banner alone R5000, that's about... 360 pounds... not sure if that is a lot in pounds but it is a huge amount for just a banner for us.

Then I heard another company quoted a big hair salon here R100 000 for their entire website. 7150 pounds. It's insane!

There is definitely money out there for web building.

There is a big price difference between countries and this is (loosely) based on the cost of living and value of currency in that country.

For example, things tend to be twice as expensive in the U.K. than in the U.S. Generally speaking, something that costs you $xx.xx in America will cost you double in Britain, e.g. a $10 pizza will cost £10 ($20). This is partially a reflection of average wages in these two countries: U.S. minimum wage is $5.85/hr and U.K. minimum wage is nearly double that (£5.65/hr? = $11.13/hr).

So you can expect an American web designer to charge $25/hr whilst their British counterpart will charge £25/hr ($50/hr). This conversion rate works for freelancers but is not generally true for larger companies, where Brits are paid substantially less (adjusted) than their American counterparts.

Wages in Ireland are similar to Britain, adjusted for currency conversion and local cost of living of course. ;)

What all this means is that a British company can save money by outsourcing to America, Ireland, India, Philippines, etc. People in those parts of the world expect less than their British counterparts because their cost of living is lower. If they made an actual British wage, they'd be very financially comfortable.

Those are the only countries with which I am familiar. Sorry for the boring read. B)

Sometimes i get so suprised with prices

For example.. My Father and I are both webdesigners, i'm more freelance whereas he owns his own company... Anyway he charges thousands for sites and at least £100 per hour, He charged a small football league £1700 just to encorporate a CMS into the already designed site...

Nowadays I feel website designers are being undermined by such low prices... low as in ridiculous, espcially when you see some of the work... templates and all

I was on a US based freelancing site and you can see the average price offered for a job, anyway this one job in particular was for quite a large shopping cart site... and for any proper website designer designing from scratch would usually cost over £1000

Yet the average bid was like $100(dollars) I was just in shock, I'd barely make a one page static site for £50

Couldn't agree more. In fact:

Already been there and done that this week!

I would honestly say that your dads prices aren't particularly that high. He seems to be charging a good rate for a good job. Problem is, a lot of people want something for nothing - and as you say (quite rightly), web design is constantly devalued by the 'have a go joes' who will do it from a back bedroom for pocket money and a compliment (even if the website they produce is crap).

So there you go! Lets not be politically correct about it. Hey! don't forget weve had a labour government for too long! Bring back freedom of sppppeeeeeccccchhhhhh!

:)

Sorry, bit eccentric i know...
