help with uploading files to my server [urgent]

Featured Replies

Hi everybody,

I have 12k files to upload which i have taken from another server.

This needs to be put onto my server.

I have tryed upload them all but a few thousand of them failed and the website ovuisly isent working...

Is there a safeway to get the files on there im really stuck please help :( :(

Upload 1 zip file of them and unzip it on the server?

for example with PHP

<?php
$output = `unzip my12kfiles.zip`;
echo "<pre>$output</pre>";

So do I just upload the zip, and then save that file as unzip.php then go to that on my browser and it should run? :S

no safeway, morrisons took them over. As Jock says or just keep trying. Was there any pattern to the files that failed? Or was it just your server thinking something nasty was happening?

well the uploads were going great for like 8k then i popoutside come back and then there had been 2 thousand failed files.. im going to talk to citycm about it, if jocks way dont work

yeah just upload the zip file and that script and open it in your browser. Just change the php to have the right zip file name. *It wont work if the server doesnt have unzip, safe_mode is on or shell_exec is disabled.

ok got it :)

ill come back with my results in a bit.. 12k files takes flipping ages to upload even on 50mg broadband

increase max execution time if its huge.

ini_set('max_execution_time', 300);
$output = `unzip my12kfiles.zip`;
echo "<pre>$output</pre>";

ffs lol i cant do jocks way till this zip is done. 11 hours left... :/

whats that other way? you know a link that will guide me thru it jay?

Of course, if you can execute commands like Jock put above on your old server, you could use a gzip tarball command to zip it, then use wget to send it across...lots of ways of doing it :)

What FTP program are you using and did you get any error messages for the failed transfers (such as "Too many connections from this IP)?

filezilla and no i did not. im uploading a cs-cart btw

If you have SSH only on your server, then use ftp via shell on your server, login to your remote server, and download all the files to your server

that was a bit confusing.

right im going to log into server 1 (my server that the files need to be moved on 2) and find shell access on the cpannel

and then im also going to have ftp open of server 2 where the files are

is this the right direction..

OK, so log in via SSH to the server, and cd into the folder that needs the files in it

check your server allows for ftp by typing in

man ftp

This should show you the manual page for your systems FTP command

I'll do these posts in stages for you :)

****.. i loged onto the cpannel and it says 500 / 500 MB ... from my zip being uploaded.

Do you think that i got to 8k files ok and then the rest woulden upload because there wasent enough space...?

blaintly the reason!!!!

ok i think my zip file is downloading onto the server...

do i have to leave the upload.php page open?
