Please Review My (in Progress) Site Re-design

Featured Replies

Hi,

Great forum by the ways , always good to bounce ideas around with like minded folk !!

I am currently giving my site a re-design , a labour of love that is taking longer than expected ! The 'blog' page is not functional at present (i need to install Wordpress on my server again) , and a few things may look skew wiff .... a work in progress !

....all criticism greatly appreciated

Visually I think your site is excellent. Wish I could design like that!

I only have one suggestion, and it's that I'd like to see a bit of blurb about your portfolio projects on the main portfolio page. But it's a really great site. Loving the background, too.

I love all the little details of the site such as the slight curve on the footer :) I think your attention to detail is amazing.

The only bit I don't really like is your main menu at the top, I feel that compared to the rest it is just there because it needs to be and doesn't seem to have the same attention to detail the rest of the site has.

You read my mind , i was thinking that all the other pages filled the page , on the portfolio page that whitespace on the right was jarring , will take you up on that and add a few short lines of text to the right of the banners !!

the nav was one thing i was looking at tweaking a little maybe , it does have a very subtle rollover effect , you just have to have damn good eyesight lol

What a lovely design, the details are gorgeous. I especially like the background, I love the texture.

My only suggestion is to tweak the navigation a bit, as it doesn't feel like it fits in with the rest of the website currently.

Also, tweak the portfolio page to make the white space on the right less in your face.

Apart from that, it's a great design — well done!

Cheers for the replys guys (hey that rhymes!!) i personally think the navigation (colour wise etc..) fits the site , i'm thinking the font is the problem ... what do you think ?

again thanks for the comments !

Yeah, I think you're right. The font is a bit small and shy for a navigation menu.

I like this site a lot, my only suggestion would perhaps be the three portfolio links at bottom of home page appear somewhat confusing, each is very big and has imagery that doesn't blend with the other two.

Could you try dividng them in some way / making landscape windows smaller .....?

One other thing I feel the "I'm Mark Redbridge..." near top of page is too close to the picture of you and not close enough to the banner above, I'd personally move it left and up - either aligning with 'firstbasedesign' and 'Welcome tpo...' on the left or more likley half of the current inset.

cheers for that i did think myself that the banners were too chunky on the index page , this is my new take on it .....

Improvement on them complementing each other.

Still seem a touch clunky for me - it's personal taste really but I'd maybe try a way round it, rest of the site breathes, these feel for me too much like banner adverts rather than nice hints/tastes/intros to your portfolio.

Lines between? Headers or intro text for each to break it up a bit? I dunno...

Could be worthwhile stepping back - save it as is - take a breath and try them as squares or other shaped windows.

Still reckon you should try moving the Hi i'm Marc across and up a bit, may be no improvement but it also may be...

good luck

will give it a bash with the icons (instead of banners) , not a big fan of them , but hey-ho i'm a damn perfectionist !!
