An online Cv for my friend. I wanted to keep it simple and easy to get the info you need. Also plan to do an iPhone friendly version of the site too. Comment on my coding style and design would be appreciated. I would at some point use this website as an example of my skills for potential employers

I think the design is fairly decent though personally I take issue with the lack of contrast on the navigation menu. Makes it difficult to read.

She needs to up her game on her show-reel, I work closely with people in the film industry, these are the sort of show-reels I see every day:

I think you need something more eye-popping in terms of design, as well as proper photography shot taken, not to be gay, but black and white, studio/professional look. Looks like you've got a picture of her out on a Saturday night, If people are seeing this that are work related, they want to see her in her place of work, not where shes heading every weekend.

 

Contact page is fine, but I personally disagree with posting addresses on the internet, email and mobile are so versatile now that it's not a problem to email or call someone.

 

References should be contained in the PDF CV.

 

The show-reel, which I think needs a little work, should be in vimeo so you can tweak the colors to match your site design of the video. Not to mention I believe it might actually work with older versions of flash, etc. Than Youtube?

 

And casting in High Def on vimeo is WAY BETTER.

 

 

Last but not least, the CV, its a bit of a shamble and is all over the placed and difficult to read, The whole thing looks like its in bold and I don't know where to look. Break it down, add some white space and more color and in my opinion why are the references first? I may be wrong but I have always been told references is the last thing you do.

 

I usually do references available on request, so if they like me, it gives them more of a reason to contact me.

 

As this is showcasing someone to do with the film and media industry, high quality images etc are necessity and especially a better CV...

 

MY CV isn't great and doesn't showcase much, but I would recommend laying out somewhere along the same lines.

 

There are a lot of people starting out in this industry, and I think doing all this is a great start if she wants to get anywhere.

I just noticed on your CV Web Applications Development did you do this at the Open University? I've decided to revamp the entire design of the website, she has a job atm so there is no rush for it to be ready. I've been looking at latest web trends etc and examples of online cvs to get a better idea. You had some really good advice thank you.

Well the folks here have covered most topics and I'd just add that embedding video using YouTube or similiar service sticks out like a sore thumb. If you have the webspace available then serve the video direct from your own site using the likes of Flowpayer.
