I'm still trying to get my head around User interface and user experience design. I'm recruting for candidates at the moment who are experienced in these fields, plus wireframing; but I'm having some issues getting it straight in my head.

 

 

First: the whole idea behind user interface and experience makes me think more of usability, and therefore, wouldn't anybody who is experienced in these fields be more of a developer?

 

Second: is this an upcoming thing? more clients are now asking for user UI/UX specialists, but surely this has been around since the beginning of web design???

 

Third: Is UI/UX/Wireframing design anything special, or is it something that anyone learns through their experience with web design?

 

Any info to give me a bit of a heads up would be much appreciated.

 

It will help me to find you guys employment more easily if you need it too

"usability" applies to any site, if visitors can't use it and achieve their goals then the site won't work very well. This is the whole point of a front end designers/developer (call it what you will).

UI/UX has always been around, only recently has it become a buzzword that has caught on.

UI/UX is web design in my book...

This. I frankly have never understood the need to distinguish between the two. Usability designers are not really for websites, generally speaking a usability designer would be employed to help with the design of physical products (Product Design). E.g. a usability designer would design the interface of a washing machine to make it easy for people to use.

 

It's another area digital design has pretty much nicked from product design and applied in a very sketchy manner. The reality is digital design and product design are very different - I can tell you that for sure having experience of both! PD is much, much harder too, probably the reason why much fewer people do it.
